From Marrakech: Essaouira Private Full-Day Trip

4. From Marrakech: Essaouira Private Full-Day Trip

Take a full-day private trip to Essaouira, one of Morocco’s most attractive coastal towns. Admire its undeniable charm, with whitewashed and blue shuttered houses, art galleries, wood workshops, fishermen and colorful boats, all enclosed by ancient red walls. Your private tour starts with pickup at your hotel or riad in Marrakech. Depart Marrakech, driving through lush valleys filled with orange groves, ancient olive trees, and working farms. Stop at Chichaoua for a coffee or snack at Cafe Afoulki. Continue past your first Argan trees. These special trees are valued for their nutritive, cosmetic, and medicinal properties. A relic species from the Tertiary Period, it is extremely well adapted to drought and other environmentally difficult conditions of southwestern Morocco and, while now endangered, under the protection of UNESCO. Arrive in Essaouira and wander the ancient streets, where it’s easy to imagine life before you. The streets have a Portuguese feel after they renamed the city in the 16th century and used it as a port city of their own. Dine on fish straight from the sea at any number of local restaurants, and ride a camel on the beach. After some free time to explore on your own, return to Marrakech for drop-off at your hotel or riad.

From Essaouira: Horseback Tour with Overnight Berber Camp

7. From Essaouira: Horseback Tour with Overnight Berber Camp

This ride is adapted to the riding level of the participants and is therefore also available for beginners. The easier tour for less experienced riders follows the wide, deserted beach of Diabat towards the south, in order to have lunch (which was carried in the saddle bags) in a shady place after about 3 hours of riding, followed by a rest and then return to the ranch by a different route through the Mimosa and Tuja forest. The route for experienced riders goes inland, along a river, and continues uphill to the village of Ghazoua, from where you descend again towards the ocean. Lunch, carried in the saddlebags, is taken in a shady forest area sheltered from the wind. After the lunch break, we will go back to the ranch along the Infinite Sand Beach, where a dream canter is possible. From the ranch the participants will be transported to our Berber camp by car. A typical mint tea and Moroccan pastries are already waiting there. Since our bivouac is located on the beach, in the evening you can watch how the sun sinks into the sea and the dark blue sky is slowly illuminated by countless stars. Our cook serves a typical Moroccan dinner, prepared directly on site from fresh ingredients, which is eaten in front of the tent. The evening ends with a campfire, traditionally told stories, drum sounds and possibly singing. After a restful night in the Berber tent, the next morning we will have a rich breakfast before our driver takes the participants back to Diabat by car.

What people are saying about Essaouira

Very friendly driver and guides. They were considerate for our sightseeing expectations. However, the car was not suitable for 3 adult visitors. It would have been perfect for 4 people but not 5 inside. We had booked for 3 people and we were welcomed by a driver and a guide who therefore occupied the two front seats of the vehicle. Which left us with the 3 rear seats of the vehicle except that the middle seat was not a real seat. And driving 6 hours in these conditions in one day is not very comfortable.

We had an incredible experience horse riding through the sand dunes, palace ruins and on the beach. We were collected from central Essaouira and driven to the ranch, where we were briefed and assigned horses based on experience. As beginners, our guide was very knowledgeable and helped with our horse riding technique. Overall, the experience was great fun and I would highly recommend.

We were picked up punctually from the hotel and after a short briefing we went on the horses. Considerable consideration was given to the corresponding previous knowledge, so the children's horses were always led safely. I've never ridden myself, but I was able to cope with support. All in all a nice, safe experience, would do it again.

A warm welcome, the staff were very nice and pleasant. The ride was lively thanks to the monitors who communicated with us throughout. Small flats too much waiting time but it was worth it

A wonderful experience, great attention to customers and great care for horses
