Expo Milano 2015 Guide: Dates, Location, Food and Drink

Expo is a time-old tradition, once known as the World’s Fair. Second time’s a charm for Milan, who hosted in 1906, so this year’s preened to be better than ever with the theme “Feeding the planet, energy for life.” Plan ahead to make your visit a breeze.

  • When to go

    1. When to go

The Expo Milano 2015 has been open since May 1 and will close its doors October 31. The festival grounds open daily at 10:00AM and close at 11:00PM. Weekdays are the least crowded.

  • How to get there

    2. How to get there

Take the passante (the suburban metro) from the city of Milan to Rho Fiera Milano Station for 4.40€ round-trip. The Expo Milano location grounds are a quick 10 minute walk away.

  • Know your Appetite

    3. Know your Appetite

There are seven sub-themes surrounding areas of technology and culture. Check out the official website for a schedule to plan exactly what you want to get out of your trip.

  • Don’t pack a lunch

    4. Don’t pack a lunch

This year is all about food, and tasting is the best way to experience a world of culture. You won’t be searching with over 150 restaurants, bars and pop-ups from which to choose.

  • The Cream of the Crop

    5. The Cream of the Crop

The Expo Milano pavilions are where 145 countries showcase their unique flavor. Wandering through them is awe-inspiring for the architecture buff and world explorer alike.

Planning Your Visit

  • Where to get the grub—and why

The food section for each pavilion is through a separate entrance and can be reached without going through the main entrance. This helps with line congestion, which is unfortunately common—waiting 10 minutes to enter is to be expected, especially for the most popular pavilions. Still, you won’t have to wait long for dinner after a quick browse of the Expo Milano 2015 map.

  • How much time to spend

The entrance is discounted at 7:00PM for the reason that you’d barely scratch the surface before the 11:00PM closing. Buying a two-day pass is recommended over a night ticket, because the overall resounding Expo Milano review is that it takes much longer than four hours to enjoy.

  • Water bottles allowed upon entry

And free refill stations are located all across the grounds. Please stay hydrated, folks!

I booked this tour for myself and my partner as part of his birthday gift. I would absolutely recommend this tour, our guide was fantastic! We found out a lot of interesting information regarding the history of Milan and the local produce/cuisine. It was a small group consisting of myself, my partner and one other person so we really got a one to one feel. Each place had delicious food, wine and was very varied. Overall we really enjoyed this tour and would recommend it for anyone wanting a traditional and historical insight into Milan cuisine and history.

Really good trip! Got to walk around the Brera region which ia really nice; our guide was really good. He gave us all sorts of information about Milan and specific foods. He took us to some really nice places to eat.Highly recommend it!

Highly recommended! Tourists usually wander around Duomo, but this tour is a little bit away from this main area. Great food, fantastic guide, nice locations and more information than just about food.
