Full description
Pre-book your entry ticket to Museo Galileo in Florence to experience one of the world's major collections of scientific instruments, a testament of the importance that the Medici and Lorraine Grand Dukes attached to scientific and artistic research. To get started, simply show your confirmation voucher at the museum the day of your visit. Come prepared to immediately start exploring the extraordinary figure of Galileo Galilei and the museum’s collections. Across its 18 thematic rooms, admire the scientific instruments from the Medici Collections which were first displayed in the Stanzino delle Matematiche (Mathematics Room) in the Uffizi Gallery. Visit the 11 rooms located on the first floor that are dedicated to the Medici Collections: quadrants, astrolabes, meridians, dials, compasses, armillary spheres, and real works of art made by famous Tuscan and European artists. Marvel at the museum’s exhibits of Galileo’s original instruments, including thermometers, microscopes, and meteorological instruments. Head to the second floor, with its 10 rooms and displays of beautiful instruments, mostly belonging to the Lorraine family, used for mechanical, electrostatic, and pneumatic applications. Other sections are dedicated to mechanical clocks, sextants, octans, pharmaceutical and chemical apparatus, weights, and measures.

The museum has been updated since our last visit 15 years ago. It was wonderful then, but even better now. It’s well organized and interesting and the explanations are good. So much of what we do and use today originated with instruments and concepts found in this museum. Frankly, it’s my favorite museum in Florence.

After visiting the Di Vinci interactive museum, this was a bit disappointing. The collection while very complete and massive, seemed unorganized, and the descriptions of what the displays were seemed inadequate - just poorly designed (font way too small).

Museum was not very busy as far as lines. Enjoyed this science museum with my granddaughter who wanted to see this one as priority. Interesting artifacts from as far back to 2nd century. Very interesting first telescopes, thermometers, and electrical demonstration instrument.
