Full description

Depart Funchal and head towards the mountainous interior of Madeira on a private full-day tour of the Curral das Freiras. Make your way to the Pico dos Barcelos viewpoint for panoramic views from 355 meters above sea level. Continue to an altitude of 1,095 meters at the Eira do Serrado viewpoint of the Câmara de Lobos. Sample a traditional chestnut cake and some sweet ginja (sour cherry) liqueur in the village, before driving back towards Funchal. Climb up to the settlement of Monte and get the chance to visit the beautiful church and go for a ride on one of the toboggan runs.

Outstanding service.

Although we were staying in Calheta (30KM from Funchal), the driver came to pick us up and was there 15 minutes before time. As we had done other tours in Madeira the days before, he organized an à-la-carte tour, to take us where we had not yet been. Our driver/guide was extremely friendly and polite, and very knowledgeable about Madeira. We saw and learned a lot during this tour. Excellent value for money, highly recommendable.

Brilliant, we were taken to some of the top sites.

Carlos came to collect us in a lovely mini bus and it was just the two of us going, no one else was getting picked up. He took us to one place where not many tourists get to, a spectacular view into the valley of the nuns. We stopped at about four places for us to take photos and have coffee and cake

This was a beautiful tour of a beautiful city on the island! Logistically, there was a mix-up as to the pick-up point for the tour. The tour company should not count on people having full access to e-mail during their vacation. The company sent a last minute change on the location a day or two before the tour. Also, the driver definitely needs to either display a sign or have a marked vehicle because I think it was just luck that we found each other. Once we got going, the tour operator was amazing, friendly and knowledgeable. The vehicle was clean and very comfortable.
