You will be picked up from your accommodation in Madeira and transferred to Vereda das Funduras where you will meet your professional guide and begin the hike. The trail starts at the viewpoint of Portela, where you can admire the beauty of the villages of Porto da Cruz and Faial, near "Eagle Rock," Penha de Águia. The tour follows the tree-lined road of Serra das Funduras until it enters into the beautiful Laurisilva forest. Whilst strolling through the forest, hikers can admire the extraordinary beauty of the flora and fauna of Madeira Island. The greenery of the trees, the singing of native birds and the whole fairytale environment make this hike truly magical. Further ahead you will find the “Casa das Funduras,” a beautiful house that supports the forestry activities of the area. Nearby you will find the descent to the Maroços, where the walker passes through the traditional terraces (“poios”) that make up this great agricultural landscape.
