Full description

Explore the stunning lochs and castles of the Western Highlands on this small-group tour from Glasgow. You'll see the superb ruins of Kilchurn on Loch Awe, the bustling west coast harbor town of Oban, and the dramatic beauty of Glencoe. Depart Glasgow at 8:30 AM and travel through gorgeous Glen Fruin, driving parallel with Loch Long. You'll then cross the Highland boundary, where the scenery changes quickly and dramatically–the flat plains of the Lowlands give way to shimmering lochs, rugged mountain tops and forest-filled glens. Continue your drive over the Rest and Be Thankful mountain pass before traveling through the Arrochar Alps. You'll then arrive at the picturesque harbor town of Inveraray on the shores of Loch Fyne.

From here you will drive along the shore of Scotland’s longest loch, Loch Awe, where you'll stop to take photos of Kilchurn Castle, a magnificent ruin right in the middle of Loch Awe and the former home of the Campbells of Breadalbane. You will then continue to the harbor town of Oban, gateway to the Isles, where you will eat lunch.

After lunch you'll travel north along the coast around Appin, passing imposing Castle Stalker, and into Scotland's most famous valley, Glencoe. This is Scotland's largest loch and it takes its name from the mountain Ben Lomond. The last stop of the day will be in Luss, an 18th-century conservation village with old workers' cottages, built for the laborers of the estate.

The countryside was amazing and the driver was great with historical and current commentary. He was also comical which was great. I find that the bus travels very fast therefore some scenery was just a glance and no opportunity to take pictures at times. Loch Lomond was beautiful… would have liked to explore more of that but only had 30 minutes there. 2 hours in Oben was a little long especially as it rained there. I would have liked to roam around Glencoe a bit more taking pictures. Overall it was a stunning day. The bus seats were small and I am a plus size person so it wasn’t overly comfortable for me. The seatbelt was very tight so although we were told to wear them I didn’t. Enjoyed the music played and overall it was a very pleasant day.

We recommend! Driving through Glencoe is a great day out in the Highlands to get a feel for this great country. It was a good group size due to the small 16 seater bus. At the individual stations we had enough time to get a nice insight. If you don't dare to drive in the Highlands yourself or if you are only in Scotland for a short time, this is a great alternative to get a taste of the "inland"! It was also a nice new experience for us, who were already in Scotland for the sixth time! Our guide Stevie was just great! With his nice, friendly manner, he made the trip very entertaining and his own stories made everything even nicer!

Unmissable!!! The tour has the right duration to get to know wonderful places and stunning landscapes, with strategic stops to take pictures and take tours. Excellent value for money, as although it is a one-day tour, it is possible to get a great idea of the beautiful countryside of Scotland and the Highlands.
