Full description

Learn about the history of Granada on this 3-hour guided tour of the Alhambra and Generalife summer palace. An informative guide will lead you around the vast complex, dating back more than 600 years. Marvel at a magnificent mix of Islamic art and culture. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984, the Alhambra was a courtly city where the sultans of the Nasrid Dynasty lived. In addition to the ornate palaces of the sultans, your guide will take you the military fortress for rewarding views of Granada and the surrounding mountains.

Then walk over to the Generalife. Built as a place of leisure for the Moorish Kings of Granada in the 14th century, its beautiful gardens are abundant with diverse flora and stunning water features. One writer poetically described it as the "water that cries."

The guide was very experienced, but started to late with the tour. She showed us the highlights in a good pace. She gave us plenty of opportunities to make foto stops. She could answer all questions of the Alhambra. Unfortunately the audio equipment had to much static to understand all explanations clearly. I would recommend this tour to all who loves intercultural archecticture with history tales. The Alhambra itself is like a maze and full of hidden views, romantic places and well restored/preserved.

Our guide Sergio told us a lot of interesting things about the Alhambra and the Generalife. The audio did not always come through well (sometimes not at all), it is important to stay close to the guide, but in a group of 25 this is not easy. The size of the group also implied that quite a bit of time was lost at the various check points.
