Full description
You’ll be picked up from your hotel very early in the morning for the transfer to Guatemala City’s airport. When you arrive at the airport in Flores, Petén, you’ll be driven to Tikal. This is one of the most important archaeological sites of the Mayan World. Tikal means Place of Voices, and dates from the Maya Classic Period. At the Tikal site your guide will show you the layout of the complex of Temples and Acropolis. You’ll visit Complex Q and Complex R, and then see the Central Acropolis, Temple I of the Gran Jaguar and Temple II, known as Los Mascarones, regarded as one of the most important within the complex. A visit to the Lost World, the oldest part of the site, completes the guided portion of the tour. In the early afternoon you’ll return to the Visitor Center for lunch. Afterwards, you’ll have free time in the park until it’s time for the airport transfer and your flight back to Guatemala City. In the early evening you’ll be transferred back to your hotel.

Herbert was a cracking guide....but the flight back was a pain!

We had a terrific day and the guide, Herbert, was a great guy and very knowledgable. But the return journey was terrible. I must state this is in no way the tour companies fault. The blame for the complete fiasco at Flores airport must be laid firmly at the feet of the airline. I actually have forgotten their name, but as I watched the situation unfold, it was obvious they had taken WAY TOO MANY bookings for the return flight so were clearly scrambling around to find other aircrafts to get us all back to Guatemala City. Net result was a long delay and an extremely longggg day. 5.30am - 8.30pm.
