We enjoyed our time at Knossos. The audio guide doesn't correspond that much with what you're looking at, but it tries to paint a holistic picture of the culture and what life would have looked like (i.e., more anthropology, less art history). This was fine with me, especially since we got some of the background at the Heraklion Archaeological Museum. We went at 4:30pm on a weekday and there was no line whatsoever. I know some would say not to miss this site if you go to Crete, but it just depends on what you're looking for. Personally, I would have been fine using this day at the beach instead.
We just used the skip the line ticket only. We went at peak time and the line was very long to get entry ticket. We downloaded app and audio tour but didnt use audio tour going on other reviews. I would use audio tour if it explained what we were looking at as we walked around. The free map and information signs were good. Also we watched Youtube about Knossos before we went. Value for money to just skip the line probably not but skipping the line at peak time in August was handy.
It was a great way to experience the historical site of Knossos. The audio guide allowed us to experience the site at our own pace. If we missed some info or forgot something we could always just go back and listen or read it again. We are not big fans of museums or history but do like to take in significant places and this was a great way to do it!
It was so easy to get straight in which is important in the heat. One light down is the guide involves needing a mobile which we dinosaurs don’t have. But one nice thing was we arranged to have our passes emailed to us to print early before we left Canada on a long tour. Really helpful - nice people to deal with. .
The remains of the palace are lovely and very interesting. You can really get a feel of what life was like for ancient Greeks B.C. A must see landmark when visiting Crete
