Great experience learning how to make 3 different types of Cretan bread, and the recipes to take away afterwards. It wasn't as completely hands on as I would have liked, but I still managed to try kneading the breads too, and had some tasty food to eat afterwards, so enjoyable overall! I finished my day with a Greek coffee, cheese and olive oil in the coffee shop with my fresh baked bread. The trip also included history of Crete and how people used to live, including the museum. Not being a fan of museums I wasn't excited to do this part, but actually I really enjoyed learning about how people used to live only a few decades ago, really interesting. Would recommend this experience.
We visited a traditional olive farm and learned about the process of making olive oil before our tasting. George was great and it was a beautiful location. Next we headed to two wineries for tastings. Both were great, but the second location only gave four tastings. After the two wineries we stopped to eat in a local village. The place was called Bakaliko and another George served us the best food we had eaten in our two week stay in Greece! I give the food 5 stars as well. Overall it was a great tour, very informative guide, great locations, and exactly what we were looking for to get more of a Cretan experience. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone.
Both wineries were great! We especially enjoyed the first location as it was very personal! Pierre knew just as much as the owners too which was amazing as he could answer any questions we still had! We loved trying the wines at both wineries and we especially enjoyed every bite and sip of the lunch!! The lunch was MUCH more than we expected ! So much local foods with wine pairings! Just be comfortable with the ‘table sharing’ style :) would recommend this trip to anyone. Worth every penny! Thank you Pierre for the memorable day!
If you want a real immersive experience into Cretan culture, look no further! Loved listening to this women speak of their history and the symbolism surrounding symbols and traditions. The entire experience was like going back in time. Truly transportive! Fabulous bread and hands-on bread activity, and fantastically learned people who make you feel like a long lost relation coming home instead "just another tourist." This is a must-go for anyone in the area! And don't forget to hang out in the coffee shop with the locals!
We loved our tour! We visited two wineries and ended at a restaurant with delicious food and even more tastings. Our guide was very knowledgeable of not only wine and the wine making process, but of the history and culture of Crete. It was an amazing way to spend a day, visiting parts of Crete we wouldn’t have seen on our own. Great tour!
