  • Knossos Palace Skip-the-Line Entry with Guided Walking Tour

    3. Knossos Palace Skip-the-Line Entry with Guided Walking Tour

The new palace was an imposing complex with important architectural innovations, splendid frescoes...

I enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about the Monoan civilization, hugely important but relatively unknown.

  • From Heraklion: Full-Day Gramvousa and Balos Tour

    10. From Heraklion: Full-Day Gramvousa and Balos Tour

Following pick-up along the Malia to Agia Pelagia main road, travel by air-conditioned coach to the west of Crete. Stop at the small village of Skaleta, near Rethimnon. Enjoy a cup of coffee or breakfast and then continue to Kissamos to board a boat and start your cruise. Admire a vast cave that was most likely an ancient shipyard. See sea turtles and dolphins playing in the water. Marvel at the geological phenomenon of the simultaneous lifting and sinking of 2 sides of the island: the western side rises 6 to 9 meters above sea level. Disembark on the island of Gramvousa, with its Venetian castle. Also known as "Pirates' Island," Gramvousa used to be a hiding place for rebels. The broader area of Gramvousa forms one of the most significant hydro-biotopes of the eastern Mediterranean. Here, you can encounter over 100 bird and 400 plant species. Enjoy plenty of free time to swim at a go...

It was a good experience. Only few points to raise: the pick-up was 30 mins late. It was very windy and the boat was packed, it took very long to get off the boat, so shorter time was available to stay on the beach. If you choose to walk up to the castle, beware that there is no health and safety, few places was very dangerous, I would not do it again. Otherwise the view was beautiful, it is worth the hassle and money but the terrible wind made the experience less enjoyable.

What people are saying about Heraklion

A special mention for Alex, an outstanding organizer and guide. A completely original and above all stress-free discovery of the city. We take the time, we have the time for discovery. We knew the city but Alex showed us places off the beaten track. A course full of surprises, ended with a great mezze. To do absolutely! Thank you very much Alex, your are the best!

The guide informed about everything historical. I thought, however, that I would casually ride the e-bike in a group of people through the city and the others could listen to the historical. Unfortunately I was the only one and that bothered me a little. Maybe it was also because it was my last day and I was just out and about and maybe had planned too much.

We had a great day with Alex and can recommend the tour to anyone who wants to discover the city in a different way. You can see all the important and historical cornerstones of the city in a nutshell. The tour ends with a delicious meal in the local restaurant. thanks Alex

It was a great Tour with Alex, we had a funny and informative day with him. It's fun to ride with these bikes trough the city and hear some of its history. At the end we had good typical Crete food and a lot of raki.

Had an interesting and super fun sightseeing tour. Really recommend for anyone with few hours to spare in Heraklion.
