    1. Heraklion & Mallia: Bus Road Trip to Samaria Gorge

Your full-day excursion to Samaria Gorge begins with pickup in Heraklion and a drive to Omalos, in the heart of the White Mountains, where you can enjoy breakfast before you begin your hike. The trek will take you over rocks and stones, through a forest of thousand-year-old trees and along a river by fresh-water springs. Along the way, you’ll have spectacular views of Crete’s most beautiful mountain range, and you are also likely to see mountain goats roaming in the wild. You pay just for the guide + bus, the gorge entry & boat tickets need to be payed additionally in the bus (which btw had some problems that day and we had to switch to the other one). The experience in Samaria was excellent tho and would recommend it to anyone!

Take in the lush green landscape on the way to the island as you travel through the impressive Topolia Gorge and pass many old and very typical villages. Stop for a coffee and breakfast in the village of Elos, known for its chestnut trees. Upon arrival at Elafonisi, get at least 4-hours to relax and swim in the crystal clear water. Laze in the sun, or go for a stroll along the pink sand beach. Benefit from beach kiosks where you can purchase food and water to rehydrate and re-energize. Situated just off the shore of the main island, Elafonisi can be reached by walking through the water. Both the beach and island are protected wildlife areas of ...

The bus driver and guide were great and the guide pointed out many spots along our drive to Elafonisi and spoke about the history of the island. It is a long day (pickup at 6:30am, drop off after 7pm) but it was a great way to get to Elafonisi if you don't plan on driving there and we got to spend 5 hours at Elafonisi which was amazing. The bus ride there was comfortable but it did not have a toilet and there is only 1 stop on the way there so just be prepared for that.

A special mention for Alex, an outstanding organizer and guide. A completely original and above all stress-free discovery of the city. We take the time, we have the time for discovery. We knew the city but Alex showed us places off the beaten track. A course full of surprises, ended with a great mezze. To do absolutely! Thank you very much Alex, your are the best!

The guide informed about everything historical. I thought, however, that I would casually ride the e-bike in a group of people through the city and the others could listen to the historical. Unfortunately I was the only one and that bothered me a little. Maybe it was also because it was my last day and I was just out and about and maybe had planned too much.
