Full description
Depart Hobart at 07:30 on a full-day tour exploring Tasmania’s ruthless convict past, and experience the rugged landscapes of the Tasman Peninsula along the way. Start with a visit to the well-preserved colonial village of Richmond, where sights include Australia's oldest bridge still in use. Then, head south to the Tasman Peninsula and enter the Tasman National Park for some amazing views of the coastline and sea. Upon arrival at the Port Arthur Historic Site, learn the story of the convict settlement and the chilling realities of life as a prisoner amid the preserved jail ruins on a guided tour. Hear more about the penal colony's terrible past. Take a cruise of the harbor to see the site from a different perspective, and get a look at the Isle of the Dead where those who died at the prison were laid to rest in mass graves. Return to Hobart, and benefit from the opportunity to stop by the remarkable geological formations of the Tasman Arch, Devil's Kitchen and Blow Hole. Get dropped off in Hobart at approximately 17:30 at the end of the tour services.

We booked this day trip the day before and I was so surprised at how quickly it was confirmed. I loved the convenience of being picked up and dropped off at our hotel as we didn't have a car. Our bus driver (who was also our guide) was very knowledgable and gave us lots of interesting facts along the way to Port Arthur. The drive (about 90 minutes) was broken up with little stops at other locations like the country's oldest bridge, a lavendar farm, Tasman's Arch, a blowhole and various lookouts which was wonderful as we would have otherwise been unable to see these. Thank you very much!

I was fortunate to have had excellent weather, clear blue skies in the three days before Easter. Maps and sign posting really helped getting around. It was wonderful particularly as I’ve always wanted to see Port Arthur, and Tasmania as it was the only state I hadn’t seen in my 50 odd years in the wonderful country.

An amazing experience! Loved this from start to finish. If you love history then you'll love this tour. Loved being able to stop off at many different incredible lookouts and sights on the way to Port Arthur and enjoy all of them. A must do and would definitely do it again!
