1. Salzburg: City and Countryside Full-Day Sightseeing Tour
Situated at the northern boundary of the Alps, the Baroque city of Salzburg boasts a glorious natural setting. On this 5.5-hour trip you will experience both city and countryside in a fusion of 2 popular tours, covering both the historic city center and the lakes and mountains that surround it. First you will experience the city that gave us Mozart and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Starting from the early 17th-Century Palace of Mirabell, you will get a 90-minute tour that includes the Mozarteum (University of Music), one of the world’s most prestigious music academies, the Marionette Theatre, and Mozart’s Wohnhaus, where the composer lived for many years. Cross over the Salzach River, once a major transport route, to enjoy magnificent city views, before following the river along part of the old fortifications and past the Law Courts to Hellbrunn Palace. On the way back to the city center you will pass the Palace of Frohnburg and the Nonnberg Abbey, situated beneath the impressive Hohensalzburg Fortress. In the Old City you will pass by the Festival Halls, Old University, and Blasius Church, before finishing at Mozart Square. The route takes you to St Gilgen, birthplace of Mozart’s mother, located on Wolfgang Lake. Returning towards Salzburg, drive past the picturesque Krottensee and Castle of Hüttenstein, before continuing along the shores of the Mondsee (Moon Lake), through the town of the same name. You will be dropped back at a central location in Salzburg to continue your day at leisure. The tour also includes a ticket for the public bus lines numbers 1 through 28 on the day of your trip.
