  • Enjoy the magnificent views out to sea from Queen Victoria's alcove
Full description
Admire the opulent Royal Apartments and private family bedrooms within the mansion. See the twin desks where Queen Victoria and Prince Albert worked. Explore the magnificently decorated Durbar Room. The furniture and artifacts reveal intricate details about entertainment at Osborne, from state banquets to family meals. See where the royal children played house and tended their own gardens down at the Swiss Cottage. There's a room dressed as it was on 11th July 1861, when the children prepared afternoon tea for their parents, not long before Prince Albert's tragic death.  Stroll in the pleasure gardens, alongside historic trees, and enjoy the Victorian Walled Garden much as the royal couple did. Take a trip down to the royal family's once jealously guarded private beach, with Victoria's restored bathing machine.

Really looked forward to visiting and did enjoy the visit. However, paid full price not much of the house open to the public. Swiss Cottage and museum closed, walk from the house to the beach closed (alternative available but not as nice). Gazelle House Cake Shop closed. Only beach cafe open (clean and welcoming). Victoria’s bathing machine under wraps (reading about it on a post is not the same). Value for money ? No.

The house and grounds were in beautiful condition. The walk to the beach was well worth the effort with Victoria's bathing hut to see and a well run cafe to refresh ourselves. There were courtesy buses laid on to take us to and from the Swiss Cottage and the beach if needed. Thoroughly recommend Osborne House.

Excellent day out

Booked tickets online beforehand, so no long queues for us at entree gate. Did the House first and were amazed about all the interesting facts of the place. The gardens were amazing, beautiful flower displays, wonderful view toward the sea and the little sailing boats in the Solent... visited the Swiss Cottage, were taken by a mini bus which was convenient as it would have been a 1 kilometre walk! All in all a lovely day out, the sunshine helped too!
