Bangkok: Jim Thompson House Guided Tour with Transfers

2. Bangkok: Jim Thompson House Guided Tour with Transfers

Your guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel either in the morning or in the afternoon, depending on your time chosen. Drive from your hotel through the city center to arrive at Jim Thompson’s House. Jim Thompson was the legendary American architect-entrepreneur who settled in Thailand after WWII and almost single-handedly revived the Thai silk industry. Thompson's achievements during his 25-year stay in the Kingdom of Thailand have won him much fame as the "Legendary American of Thailand". Since his mysterious disappearance in 1967 in the jungle of Malaysia, little has changed in the home that was the 'talk of the town'. Even today, this iconic Thai-style house, which contains extensive collections of art and antique objects, continues to be a key stop for visitors to Bangkok. Jim's maze of seven Thai-style teak houses has since been converted into a small private museum filled with his priceless collection of Asian antiques, pottery, and curiosities. After touring all the corners of this spectacular house and the lush gardens, your guide and driver will safely bring you back to your hotel.

Bangkok: Jim Thompson House and Baan Krua Community Tour

3. Bangkok: Jim Thompson House and Baan Krua Community Tour

Around 08:30 AM, your English-speaking guide will meet you at your hotel in Bangkok and will take you, in an air-conditioned car, to visit the legendary Jim Thompson House museum. On arrival, the guide will provide you with some information about the place before entering the house. After entering the traditional house, the Jim Thompson guide will escort you to see different sections inside. The house consists of a complex of six traditional Thai-style houses, teak structures that were purchased from several owners and brought to the present location from various parts of Thailand. Construction of the Thai house was completed in 1959. Since his disappearance in 1967, little has changed in the home that was the city's most celebrated social center.  After visiting the house, your guide will take you to the Baan Krua Nhua community, located on the bank of the Klong Saen Saeb River. It has been the area of the Cham people since the reign of King Rama I. The Cham people usually work as fisherman and silk weavers. From this folk wisdom came Jim Thompson, the famous proprietor, fascinated by Thai silk. He supported the silk weaving in this community and bought it into his own company. The brand Jim Thompson was popular all over the world. Nowadays, the people in this community still keep the silk weaving profession. The silk is unique due to its high-quality texture, beautiful color and durability.  You will get to visit the house of Uncle Aood, the last family of the Baan Krua community who still continue the silk business for a living today. Also, you will have an opportunity to buy the quality silk products directly from the original place. At the end of your tour, you will be transferred back to your hotel.

Our guide, Mindy was very kind and explained much of Thailand’s history very precisely!! I really appreciated that she told us about the history of Buddhism and gave me a lot of insight into how it ties into everyday Thai culture!! We went to many places and stopped for lunch, then coffee later on. I also appreciated that she showed us the side of China Town that most tours don’t consider!!

Sirinat was a great guide! She was super helpful when we planned the itinerary day (for example we told her we wanted to see less temples and more of the city). She was also very flexible during the day as we wanted to get food / coffees / expedite various tour events. She was also very knowledgeable about the history of Thailand which supplemented the actual visits to the sites.

We had a really trip today with Pu kattiya from Trip guru. Our wishes were always taken care of. We saw a lot of Bangkok and learned a lot. Thank you Pu for the unforgettable day.

It was a very nice tour guide who suggested interesting destinations to us when there was little traffic! It was a very enjoyable tour!

Used one tour so far. Everything went great. The child was satisfied.
