Seize the opportunity to experience one of the stunning blue ice caves within Vatnajökull Glacier, the largest glacier in Europe.

This tour is rated as easy, as the Superjeeps allow participants to get very close to the entrance of the cave without exerting much effort. Head into the more easily accessed ice caves for an encounter with the stunning blue ice and the beautiful views for which Vatnajökull is famous. In the warmer summer months, the glacier melts and forms holes and crevasses. After they freeze, get an up-close look at what nature has created.

The winter months are all different and the glacier and caves are constantly evolving, making the sites extra interesting. Each season, the best available cave is chosen for this tour. The tour begins from Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon in Southeast Iceland. Meet your professional glacier guide and climb on board a 4x4 Superjeep to begin the rugged journey towards the glacier.

The drive is an experience in and of itself. Once there, you will have plenty of time to enjoy the beauty and splendor of the icy blue caves of Vatnajökull.

Wonderful! Our guide Lisa was very accommodating to us. She made sure we didn’t get to the cave when there were too many people and let us have ample time in the caves. Pretty sad to see how much the glacier has retreated, but very glad to be able to witness this absolute beauty!

Would absolutely recommend this with our local guide, Oli. He was super friendly and very knowladgeable. We could ak all the questions we had. Which gave us a unique inside into the glacier, nature in Iceland and the culture. We also met other guides from the company, that is a truly local one, you could reLly see the quality provided in the tour. Must see!

Note that we visited the Sapphire ice cave, at the time of writing this. Not the Crystal or Diamond cave as you might have read in the internet. These caves appear and disappear over seasons. So by the time you visit, it might not be the same cave. We had a good time with Pat and he was a friendly and knowledgable guide. The journey by super jeep is some 40 mins one way, 30 mins of walk one way to the cave, 20- 30 mins in the cave, and back. The ice caves were so beautiful and the tour was totally worth it.
