Zanzibar: Jozani Forest National Park and Dolphin Encounter

1. Zanzibar: Jozani Forest National Park and Dolphin Encounter

Begin your experience early, as the morning is the best time to spot dolphins. Start in the Matemwe fishing village, which is one of the oldest capitals on Zanzibar Island. While looking out for dolphins, dive in to snorkel among the wonderful coral reef and the variety of colorful fish and marine creatures. If the dolphins are in a good mood, you can witness them goofing around.  As you will be in their natural habitat, there is no guarantee you'll have the chance to swim with the dolphins; your guide will do their best to ensure they are comfortable so you can enjoy their beautiful energy, whether up close or from a distance.  The trip to Zanzibar Jozani Forest national park involves a visit to the high, dense groundwater forest. Home to the red colobus monkey, a rare species only found in Zanzibar, take the opportunity to get up close to the wild animals. Other animals within the park include blue monkeys, elephant shrews, and bushbabies. Proceed then to the mangrove, through which the conservation authority has built a bridge to allow visitors to observe the wildlife without trampling on it.  Next, stop at a local restaurant for a Swahili table buffet lunch. Before heading back to your hotel, make a short stop at the community project, Zanzibar Butterfly Center. Even though the site is not so big, it is a lovely place to relax and enjoy the moment before ending your experience.

Stone Town: Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park Half-Day Tour

3. Stone Town: Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park Half-Day Tour

The 19-square-mile Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park in Tanzania is located on the island of Zanzibar and is the only national park in Zanzibar. Begin your visit with a walk through the natural forest, where the smaller trees and bushes create several sub-canopies under the highest canopy. Walk along the nature trail through the forest, which is an habitat for many animal species including the red colobus monkey, the spotting of which is a top priority for many visitors to the park. The natural forest and the nature walk are just a couple highlights of your day spent in the national park; explore the site with your guide, walk the boardwalk through the mangroves, and discover a turtle rehabilitation center.

I had the most wonderful experience and I’m so grateful to my guide Zuma. He was prompt in picking me up from the hotel at the agreed time. I got to snorkel and got to see the dolphins. Please note there’s a possibility that dolphins won’t be seen on the day; but my guide and the man who drove the boat communicated well and were resilient in ensuring I saw dolphins. The Jozani reserve tour was great with an attentive guide too. Lunch was delicious and relaxed. I really recommend this. Finally, as a solo female traveller, at no point did I feel unsafe

We really enjoyed the excursion. It is particularly noteworthy that there was even a female accompaniment. Since we (two girls) traveled alone, we really liked it. The excursion was well organized and the lunch, where you can choose between European and Swahili dishes, was very tasty. We tried the Swahili dishes and tolerated them without any problems. We would book the tour again at any time.

It was amazing. We moved to another place because there was more chance of dolphins there. That worked! Snorkeling was great but the dolphins swimming under you top it off. Both men did a very good job and had fun doing it themselves. Jozani forest guide was in a hurry and rattled off his story. It was beautiful, yes

We saw dolphins, the butterfly center, chameleons, the superb Jozani forest with its monkeys, the mangrove. Great day, meal in a very nice place with swimming pool

Both the Dolphin encounter and the forest were fun, gave an opportunity to see animals that my children love and spend the morning outside the hotel
