I had an absolutely fabulous day on this trip. It was with some trepidation that I booked this trip as the reviews were mixed. However, I can honestly say this was my favourite day in Greece and the long train journey was absolutely worth it. Meteora itself is completely incredible, and was made even better by the very comfortable transport and highly professional, attentive and knowledgeable guide, who has lived in the area his whole life and had lots of interesting knowledge to share. He tailored the trip to suit me as I was the only one on the trip, and was so kind in offering to take photos at the viewpoints and stop off for refreshments etc. I felt that the day was very good value for money and that the train ride was surprisingly comfortable and straightforward. I stayed at a hotel near the station just to make things a little bit easier. The only problem was the company's insistence that tickets were printed rather than just shown on a phone, as I don't this this was necessary.
We missed our first tour on Friday as we missed the train from Athens to Kalabaka. We got it rescheduled for the next day. The tour was great, we loved our guide and our driver - they have shared great knowledge and insights about the area and monasteries. We got picked up at the station & had a bite to eat and drink at a local cafe, went through a few different towns on the way to Meteora which was stunning! A must see. We visited 2 monasteries and 1 nunnery. It was a great experience not only to see how they build the monasteries & see the monks but also a spiritual experience for those seeking for one. We were able to light candle and pray. The weather was great, we took great pictures and saw even more amazing views. Overall, one of the best things we have done while in Greece!
The tour was excellent, everything thing was organized and perfect and my tour guide Maria was totally nice and extremely friendly she answered all my questions and did everything in order for us to have a nice time I really enjoyed every moment in the tour and I totally recommend it.
Breathtaking and amazing are the words that come to mind. Our train was delayed by around 2.5 hours due to mechanical problems but Vasilis, our guide, whisked us off immediately to start our journey to a beautiful landscape with a rich history.
It's a must! It's one of the most amazing places I have ever been. The views it's just breathtaking. And the history of the region its fascinating. I learned so much! Its a 4hr on train from Athens but is totally worth it!
