From Edinburgh: Alnwick Castle and Scottish Borders Tour

1. From Edinburgh: Alnwick Castle and Scottish Borders Tour

Explore the borderlands of Scotland and England during this full-day tour from Edinburgh. Stop at the charming town of Kelso, where you can explore this handsome town and what is thought to be Scotland’s largest market square. You also see the ruins of Kelso Abbey, a reminder of the many ancient conflicts between Scotland and England. Cross the border and travel to thousand-year-old Alnwick Castle (entry included), one of the great castles of Northumberland. Originally built to protect the north of England from Scottish Border Reivers and invaders, more recently Alnwick Castle and its perfectly manicured gardens have found fame as one of the settings for the fictional Hogwarts School in the Harry Potter movie series. After around 3 hours at Alnwick, travel north along the stunning Northumberland Coast. You stop on your way back to Edinburgh at one of the beautiful historic villages or castles that pepper the rolling landscapes of Southern Scotland.

A very nice tour. The tour starts in Edinburgh and leads you through the Scottish lowlands to Alnwick Castle. Along the way (in our case) Jolie tells stories about the things you see and about Scottish history in a very fun and entertaining way. Along the way a coffee / toilet stop in Kelso a small beautiful town. Have a cup of coffee ... Alnwick Castle is beautiful and you can wander around. On the way back a stop in Dunbar on the coast before we drive back. The tireless Jodie still knows how to captivate us with her stories. Then we'll be back in Edinburgh. The tour is approximately 9 hours. Not too short and not too long for us. Alnwick Castle is definitely worth it and there is plenty to do in the castle for children (broomstick practice is great!), watching and the guards are wonderfully friendly and helpful. Meeting point easy to find and everything is well organized. We were 12 people, so the bus was not full, but the tour continued! Definitely recommended!

Kelly was a wonderful and personable tour guide - we packed a lot into our day trip without feeling rushed. Would 10/10 recommend to someone!

Nice experience. Very competent and friendly driver cum guide. On time running. Covers everything. Castle is worth seeing.

Stephen was a wealth of knowledge with a great sense of humor. And he drove the coast route and made it speciL.
