Full description
Following pick-up from your hotel in Khao Lak, head to the Takuapa local market (only guests picked up from Khao lak, guests from other pickup locations will not visit local market) to browse and look at all the products. From there, continue to the elephant rescue camp. Feed these amazing animals some bananas and cool them off with a bath. Next, visit the monkey temple. Eat a Thai-style lunch at the local restaurant next to the river before bamboo rafting along the Khao Sok river. Enjoy as your guides gently glide the bamboo rafts downstream as you admire the dramatic limestone mountains and serene sounds of the jungle. Stop at the river bank for some trekking and relaxing in the front of a limestone cave after enjoying a coffee break. This coffee is made in a bamboo stick and served in bamboo cups, which you can take home with you. At the end of your tour, transfer back to your hotel in Khao Lak.

We were picked up at the hotel on time and were lucky enough to have the tour alone as a couple. Our guide spoke English and both he and the driver were very friendly! During the tour we learned a lot about the country, its culture and there was also one or the other personal experience. Bamboo rafting and monkey temple were great. However, the encounter with the elephants left us with a queasy feeling. The keeper rode on the neck of the animal and had an elephant hook with him, and he kept getting loud commands. All animals looked healthy and well cared for. Bathing and feeding was great, but when we left we could see an elephant trekking on the opposite side. The guide told us that this is the same camp - you can also ride there. When we asked if that wasn't forbidden, he just replied "well that's not very good but okay". If we had known these circumstances beforehand, we would have decided against this tour.

The tour itself wasn't bad. The market shouldn't have been and we imagined the monkey temple differently. The elephant bathing and the raft trip were great. What bothered us a little on the tour, our guide texted us a little too much with unnecessary conversations. Unfortunately, we learned very little about the country or the tour.

Very well planned tour. The tour guide was very personable and told us a lot of interesting information during the tour. The raft trip in the middle of nature was great and especially the lunch was sensational. A star deduction due to the long drive (we started from Khao Lak) but overall a recommendable tour!
