Virpazar: 3-Hour Skadar Lake Cruise to Monastery Kom

1. Virpazar: 3-Hour Skadar Lake Cruise to Monastery Kom

Climb aboard your boat and set off to see the magnificent 18th-century fortress of Lesendro while admiring the breathtaking scenery around you. Cruise along the Moraca River, a bird reserve with up to 15 different species. Depending on the time of year, you'll spot native birds such as cormorants, seagulls, and if you're lucky, even pelicans.  Cruise along the narrow channels of the Skadar Lake and gaze in awe at the carpets of beautiful lily flowers and reeds. This area is often called the safari part of the lake because it resembles wild passages in old forests. If you are lucky, you will have the chance to see some nests with baby birds in it. Discover the three beautiful islands of Small Cakovica, Big Cakovica, and Lipovnjak and continue through a similar small channel leading you to Odrinska Gora, the home of the Monastery Kom. Listen to the tales and stories about its past and get acquainted with the lifestyle of the monks residing here. Marvel at the artworks inside the monastery and take time to explore this hidden island gem.  Then, board your boat again, returning to the meeting point. On the way back, your captain will take an alternate route so you can admire the three islands from the other side. You'll also have the chance to go for a swim in the refreshing waters of the lake. Be sure to bring your swimsuit!

Monastery Kom: Skadar Lake Private Cruise & Wine Tasting

2. Monastery Kom: Skadar Lake Private Cruise & Wine Tasting

Begin your journey in Virpazar, the tiny fishing village located in the heart of Skadar Lake. Follow a small river channel surrounded by fields of reeds and rows of willows and find yourself on the open waters of Skadar Lake. Watch Vranjina proudly standing against the largest lake in southern Europe. Pass under a nearby bridge and glide down paths enclosed with endless fields of kasaronja (water chestnuts). The ruins of Lesendro, an 18th-century fortification, appear soon after, along with their bird visitants, treating you with a beautiful view. Enjoy fresh air flowing through your body as you pass by the place where Skadar Lake meets its richest tributary - Morača River. Have the view melt before your eyes into thousands of white and yellow water lily flowers hidden behind three islets. Take the narrow passage between the uneven coast and marshy fields to the foot of Odrin hill - the home of Monastery Kom. Let the aroma of wild thyme dancing in the breeze tickle your senses as you look at the best-preserved frescoes in this area. With such a pristine environment, you can be sure that the monastery honey is equally delightful. Leave this picturesque view, and take a refreshing swim before arriving back at Virpazar.

The trip met our expectations 100%. The lady at the information desk informed us in detail (English fluently) about the trip plan - where we are going and what we will see. The captain was very nice and smiling, there was refreshment (tasty pancakes) and wine, the captain, after welcoming him, assured him that he would answer all questions about the cruise, and it was like that. The trip lasted about 3 hours 15 minutes. There was no bathing in the lake, because it was raining for several days and there were no people willing to do so, but I think that if during a few-minute stop in the middle of the lake someone would decide, it would not be a problem :) We only regret that the weather was uninteresting :)

The boat trip was canceled due to bad weather. Very good communication with the local organization via whattsapp who kept us informed whether or not it could go on the next day. Wonderful boat trip in a fantastic nature. Fritters, wine and water provided for everyone and more than enough. Recommended!

I consider a cruise on Lake Skadar a must during a visit to Montenegro. Extremely relaxing type of rest, beautiful views, contact with nature. A real wooden boat created an amazing atmosphere. Additional attractions were refreshments (donuts and wine) and the possibility of swimming in the lake.

Very friendly welcome and superb walk. Just for us (we were a group of 6). The managers even recommended an excellent restaurant for us to eat before the tour. This lake is superb. We highly recommend.

Everything went smoothly, I recommend the trip to everyone.
