  • La Paz: Tiwanaku Archeological Site Full-Day Tour

    1. La Paz: Tiwanaku Archeological Site Full-Day Tour

After pickup from your hotel in central La Paz at around 7:30 AM, you'll head to Tiwanaku to explore the most important archaeological site in Bolivia.  Located near the southern shore of Lake Titicaca in Bolivia, the city of Tiwanaku, also spelled Tiahuanaco, was the capital of a powerful pre-Incan civilization that dominated the Andean region between 500 AD and 900 AD. Arriving later, the Incas regarded Tiwanaku as the site where their god Viracocha rose from the depths of Lake Titicaca. With your guide, you'll explore this monumental site that includes several temples, a pyramid, symbolic gates, and mysterious rock carvings of alien-like faces. At the end of the tour you will be dropped back to La Paz.

It was a highly professional and a good trip. Since there were no other travelers, it was kind of a private tour and I was very satisfied by it. The guide Álvaro is very knowledgeable and helped me to take nice photos. Thanks!

  • La Paz: Cholitas Wrestling Show with Transfers

    4. La Paz: Cholitas Wrestling Show with Transfers

After pickup from La Paz, head to one of the wrestling venues to enjoy perhaps the most unique experience the city of La Paz has to offer.  ‘Cholita’ used to be a negative name for indigenous women, but thanks to an grass-roots revolution, a sense of pride has been restored amongst these local people. Cholitas can now wear their traditional costume without fear of being mocked, and they even wear them in the wrestling ring.  Watch the theatrical stunts of the cholitas as they wrestle one another in the ring. They'll show off their acrobatic skills throughout the show as they punch, kick and pull each other’s hair until one goes down for the count. At the end of the show, you will be dropped back to your pickup point.

What people are saying about La Paz, Bolivia

Nice tour!

Small coordination problems with the local operator: meeting at 8:00 am and they came to learn us at 7:40 am. Then they took us to the bus station (arrived at 8:10) where we waited until 9:30 to be picked up by the guide and begin the shared tour with 8 other people. The tour is very beautiful and the guide is prepared. Definitely to do if you are staying in La Paz.

Simply sensational!! For those who like it, it's a super ride, liberating, super cultural, rich in stories and knowledge. In addition to the Guide who took us to be super knowledgeable about everything and told us about all points from leaving the hotel to returning to the hotel. My husband and I loved it and we highly recommend it!
