Berlin Reunited and Revived! 3-Hour Alternative Tour

8. Berlin Reunited and Revived! 3-Hour Alternative Tour

Discover how the once dilapidated and divided German capital became the “poor but sexy” capital of cool. Visit 4 very different neighborhoods to see Berlin's gentrification, growing corporate culture, and thriving alternative scene. Begin with the once neglected buildings of Mitte which were quickly restored to their former glory after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Then head to Prenzlauer Berg. The artistic hub of Berlin in the 90s, Prenzlauer Berg now attracts an influx of upwardly mobile young professionals and families. Visit the Kulturbrauerei; an old brewery that has been refurbished into a center for culture and the arts, mirroring the metamorphosis that continues in East Berlin today. Head to the alternative districts of Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg, where left-wing residents continue to stave off attacks from corporate businesses and rent-raising landlords. Visit the East Side Gallery, a colorful section of the Berlin Wall that's now the largest open-air gallery in the world, and discuss the origins and political overtones of Berlin's famous street art scene. The tour ends with a crescendo at the infamous Turkish Market, an outdoor bazaar on the banks of the beautiful Landwehr canal. The weekly market has grown beyond its origins of fresh produce, authentic Turkish cuisine and bolts of brightly patterned fabric, today you can find Berlin artisans, local farmers and impromptu live music too, truly a representation of city's diverse population.

Kreuzberg, Wrangelkiez Gastro Tour mit Klaus

10. Kreuzberg, Wrangelkiez Gastro Tour mit Klaus

My "Kiez", my favourite restaurants: Join me on this gastro tour through the buzzing ‘Wrangelkiez’ in Kreuzberg. Experience the culinary diversity of the Kiez and discover new flavours from traditional German delicacies to vibrant international street food. The walk is a mix of stops and tastings at some of my tried and tested favourite restaurants with history and anecdotes from the area. We will stop at five different restaurants and street food stalls. The changing programme may include Turkish, Ethiopian, Vietnamese, Peruvian, Austrian and German specialities. A "snack" is a small portion - definitely more than a praline-sized bite: you can expect to have a full meal over the course of the tour. Drinks are not included in the price. Berliner Döner Kebap and/or Currywurst are not plan of the regular schedule but can of course be accomodated for private tours on request. Most dietary requirements can also be accommodated! Possible stops are: Oberbaumbrücke, Schlesische Straße / U-Bahn station Schlesisches Tor, Landwehrkanal, Lohmühleninsel, Wrangelstraße, Markthalle IX. The tour starts near the Oberbaumbrücke and the route is adjusted depending on the day of the week and the season. This gastro walk focusses on a relatively small area of the neighbourhood and is therefore not a comprehensive "Kreuzberg tour". It is also interesting for Berliners who have no experience of the Kiez. My Kiez, my favourite restaurants! I speak fluent German and English.

Great trip, fabulous sightseeing and very informative commentary. I learnt a lot about Berlin and enjoyed every minute of the trip.

the early bird catches the worm. be there early enough for the dream spot, then nothing stands in the way of a comfortable ride

The food was good, but it took a long time from ordering to serving a cup of coffee, 35 minutes

The experience is once in a life time, definitely worth every minute

Nice tour on the Landwehr Canal and via lock on the Spree ..
