Langkawi: Mangrove Kilim UNESCO Geopark & Cave Tour

1. Langkawi: Mangrove Kilim UNESCO Geopark & Cave Tour

Start the tour with a hotel or port pickup by the local driver and transfer to the jetty. Travel by boat through the twists and turns of the Kilim River through the maze created by aerial roots and thick fleshy leaves of the mangrove trees. Keep your eyes peeled for animals that make their home in this delicately balanced ecosystem which is responsible for the health and wide variety of species in the Andaman Sea. Also, see how the mangrove area is a perfect environment for cottage industries such as fish farms. Make your first stop when the boatman stops the engine and throws some chicken pieces out into the water to invite the eagles. Marvel as eagles dive down just next to you and claw up the chicken pieces as they soar into the sky. Then, venture out of the mangroves to admire majestic limestone rock formations and sea stacks that rise dramatically from the ocean. This ancient coral thrust into the sky millions of years ago is home to a unique and ancient group of plants found nowhere else on earth. After this, set off to explore darkened bat caves and seeped in fabled tales of mysteries and romance. Visit a floating fish farm in a secluded cove surrounded by high vertical limestone and granite cliffs. Spend a wild time hand-feeding the rays and be surprised by the other sea creatures who inhabit the tanks. After this, the boat will make your way back to the jetty and the driver will drop off from where you started from.

We were picked up on time at 9. The driver drove us to the GeoForest which took about an hour (The driver was too fast and needs to slow down for safety). We met the guide Ayman who was brilliant throughout the day. He ensured we were always safe and explained all the historical facts. The Bat caves was a nice experience then we went to a fish farm which was okay. The speedboat then took us to the eagles which was amazing - we then went to a beach and we swam for about 30 mins. The speedboat sped back which was fun and we had food. We got to see many monkeys, snakes, birds and other animals. The trip was fun and very worth it. Definitely a must do on Langkawi!

Guide Iman and driver Azahar showed amazing hospitality to us and took my 7 year old son under their wing, going to the effort of answering his many questions with such enthusiasm. Iman showed such a kind gesture in giving my son a fresh coconut juice as we waited for the return bus ride. I can’t recommend these guys enough!

Really friendly and amazing tour guide/boat captain the whole day is planned out well and really straightforward. The pick up and drop off at hotel was so helpful. Would recommend.

Very fun experience for those who want to do something active. A different activity that is not too touristy. Nice and exciting nature.

Very interesting itinerary and professional tour guide
