Full description
Leipzig is much more than an old commerce and trade show town; it’s one of the musical capitals of Europe. World-famous musicians like Wagner, Bach, Mendelssohn, and Schumann lived and worked here. And in the registry of births you’ll find another name known around the world: Richard Wagner was born in Leipzig. The great musicians of the Gewandhaus, the singers of the St. Thomas Church Choir, and the professors of the conservatory continue to shape the incomparable musical life of Leipzig. Take a musical trip walking along the Leipzig Music Trail. You’ll gain knowledge about the musical museums, music history, and the cultural centers of St. Thomas Church, the opera, and the Gewandhaus. Find out more about the St. Thomas Church Choir, beloved far beyond Leipzig, and its 800-year history. On the way, hear the street sounds of an 18th-century city as well as pieces that Bach composed in Leipzig. In the St. Nicholas Church, note the bust of Bach during his first performance there in 1723.
