10. From Avignon: Treasures of Provence Full-Day Tour
Spend the day exploring the beauty of Provence. Head to Orange where you will take a panoramic tour of the city and visit the Roman theater, one of the best-preserved in the world (entrance fee included). Then take a sightseeing tour in the vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
Hear explanations about "terroir," grape varieties and wine tasting at a winery and learn about vinification and storing wines.
On Thursdays, visit the traditional market in Orange; on Saturdays visit the market in Arles (from April 1, 2019, the visit and the stop in Orange will be replaced by a wine tasting in the village of Gigondas).
Continue to St Remy de Provence. Stop at the roman monuments and sites painted by Van Gogh, who spent 1 year at the mental hospital close to the roman monuments. See les Baux de Provence, a picturesque medieval village built on a rocky spur in the Alpilles mountains.
In Arles, take a walking tour to the Roman and medieval monuments and the sites painted by Van Gogh during the time he lived in the city between 1888 and 1889, including the inspiration for the yellow house, the garden at the hospital and the night café.
