Private Sintra Night Walk: Stories From the Mountains

1. Private Sintra Night Walk: Stories From the Mountains

Early in the night, you will be met by your guide, a historian, at Sintra's Historic Centre to being your night walk where you have the unique opportunity of hearing the true background of mysticism involving Sintra beginnings, through the words of Sintra's foremost history researcher, with the additional advantage of visiting a tourist spot like Sintra away from the usual crowds. After being introduced to what legends and myths are and their impact in the village through time, you'll begin your way across the mountain (by road and having very short trails) in the dark of the night. With the stars hanging above you, the nocturnal landscape will be broken by the sight of a few monuments in the distance including the National Palace, and Pena Palace. You will also see some peculiar sites whose pasts and what they enclose would elude a regular guide. Your guide will tell you about these various sites and you will learn how they impacted the traditions and way of thinking of the local people - especially the ancient ones. From the highest parts of the mountain, the silence you will find uncommon, you'll hear about some of the strange memoirs that history left in the documents and manuscripts from past centuries.

Private Sintra Night Walk: "Dreams in the Woods"

2. Private Sintra Night Walk: "Dreams in the Woods"

You will walk around the edge of the mountain, between old parts of the village and the hills, with a few stops along the way, where you will see in the distance some monuments including the old Royal Palace, Pena Palace, Sintra's Castle (Moorish Castle), amongst others landmarks, and you'll hear about how they were in the past, as well as some unusual historical tales conveyed to you by a historian. The second part of the walk will take you on a short excursion in the dark of the mountain. The terrain will be mostly regular, with the exception of some parts in which a few steps will require climbing. Nothing extraordinary for people with no mobility impairments. Overall, the effort implied in the whole night walk is equivalent to a whole afternoon strolling in a touristic place. This second part will include some stops when you'll hear about some of Sintra's most curious and least known intriguing stories.  In this night walk in Sintra, prepare yourself to hear about what some figures of the past have dreamt here, how their dreams have spawned monuments, what sound and sight they experienced in the Mountains and in the shore, and what fears arose from what they heard in the night. Interior access to the monuments is not included. Though you will know very discreet monuments unknown even to the Portuguese. Needless to say you may feel at will to ask any question you may have related to Sintra's History. You will end your night walk at Sintra's Historic Centre, where you'll then have the opportunity to experience its nocturnal tranquility.
