Full description
Learn about the origins of fado music on a 3-hour walking tour of the Lisbon neighborhoods where it originated. As you explore, you will be accompanied by a live fado singer and guide. Experience the magic of Portuguese fado, a form of music listed by UNESCO as of “World Intangible Cultural Heritage.” An important part of everyday life in Lisbon, there is no better way to learn about Portuguese culture than through a close encounter with fado in the nation’s capital. You will go to some typical fado houses, where fadistas have earned their living for decades. Wander the alleys and squares around Praca Martim Moniz, a multicultural part of Lisbon that is off the usual tourist route. Discover local taverns instrumental in the history of fado culture in the Mouraria district. Then, stop for a delicious meal of caldo verde (a traditional Portuguese soup) and barbecued chouriço (spicy sausage), served with bread and wine in one of the authentic fado houses of Alfama.

Our tour guide Ariane was just great! In her personable manner, she gave us a lot of knowledge and was able to answer every question. Our fado singer Ruca with his great voice really impressed us and the conclusion in the fado bar showed us that fado doesn't always have to be sad! We had a wonderful evening. Thanks a lot for this!!

A fantastic guide and a great fado singer! We were only two people and yet the tour went on as usual. Very special to experience this evening. A nice walk through the narrow and old streets of Lisbon. At certain points in the city a beautiful fado is sung by the singer who goes along with the tour. This makes it all the more special than a normal fado tour. Recommended!!!!!

Very cool to know the origin of fado

The tour is very interesting, we know the places and names that gave rise to fado. And also the styles of fado. We could perhaps reduce the number of stops to listen to the singer, to have a leaner itinerary, since in the end we visited a fado house. The house of fado seemed to us very authentic, more famous by Portuguese than by tourists. A suggestion: explain a little better how the tour unfolds, the main stages in the presentation of the tour.
