It remained like this for 90 years before work commenced again in 1272 but was halted once more in 1284 when Pisa was defeated in battle. The 7th floor was completed in 1319 with the bell chamber finally being added in 1372. The top of the tower can be reached by climbing the 294 steps which rise in the form of a spiral on the inner side of the tower walls (pre-booked tickets recommended at EUR 18 per person). Journey on to Florence (an 1.5-hour drive) arriving into the city through vineyards on the outskirts of Chianti and arriving into Piazzale Michelangelo which offers Renaissance views across the Ponte Vecchio, Duomo and Giotto's Tower. Once in the city center, discover the city's prominent landmarks without too much walking as your driver gives you historic and cultural background information. Our cruise changed the port of call to another port due to bad weather. GetYourGuide representative contacted me via WhatsApp on the change and the extra fee I had to pay coz the distance was longer. I was ok with that. Gave instructions on where to meet them. Guide was Alexander. He was excellent and very knowledgeable. However, I felt that he could have arranged to meet us at the entrance to Miracle Sq, Pisa, instead of arranging for us to walk back to the bus in the parking lot on our own. I wasn’t sure of the way and had to asked for directions along the way. A few others were also lost. Other than this all was good. We enjoyed ourselves.

Bus was on time getting back to the ship which was the most important thing for us. Martina was excellent at explaining where to go and what to see. She provided maps and directions. Spoke great English. The cruise line changed the port just the night before, but we received a notice from GetYourGuide and sure enough, they were there at the new port!

Not only is Laura a delightful person and good company, she is an excellent guide with an intimate knowledge of the area. She shares wonderful information about what you are seeing without going into over the top minutiae. A great day and a great tour. The best of our trip!!

Our guide had to cancel the trip due to covid. However, the tour company reached out to us and gave us the Pisa/Florence all day trip with no additional charge. We appreciate their proative apporoach and consideration.

We liked it very much, pickup was on time. We got a lot of information from our friendly driver
