Full description
This tour it will begin with a visit to Cortona, where we will visit the most important sites, then we will go to Montepulciano where guests can have a meal, and finally Pienza. 1) Cortona is believed that owes its origins to nothing less than a certain Dardano, son of Jupiter and Electra, who was later founder of Troy. It retains its historic center in perfect medieval style. Cortona is derived from Latin Cortōna, and from Etruscan . Cortona became a Ghibellinian city state in the 13th century, with its own currency. From 1325 to 1409, the Ranieri-Casali family successfully ruled the town. After being conquered by Ladislaus of Naples in 1409, Cortona was sold to the Medici in 1411. Convent de Le Celle is a 13th-century Franciscan Convent located in Le Celle, just outside Cortona It's a small hermitage builded around 1200, where St Francis of Assisi lived a part of its life. It's famous also for the movie Under the tuscany sun, with Diane Lane, La vita è bella di Roberto Benigni. Montepulciano Located at 605 meters above sea level, between the Valdichiana and the Val d'Orcia, Montepulciano has origins from the Etruscans from the fourth century BC. Of ancient and long history, it is also famous for the wealth of excellent vineyards, from which the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG is obtained. Famous for its Vino Nobile, in the historic center, it's possible to taste wine of many cellars. Pienza Before the village was renamed to Pienza its name was Corsignano. It is first mentioned in documents from the 9th century. Around 1300 parts of the village became property of the Piccolomini family. The Cathedral, which dominates the center of the piazza, has a facade that is one of the earliest designed in the Renaissance manner. Although the tripartite division is conventional, the use of pilasters and of columns, standing on high dados and linked by arches, was novel for the time. Pienza and the falous landscape to Monte Amiata, the cottages with rows of cypresses along the edge of the hill Visit La Pieve di Corsignano.
