Full description
Enjoy an original dinner of opera and lyric song, sung by performing waiters at the stunning La Castafiore restaurant in the heart of Madrid. The restaurant opened in 1996 with the aim of promoting young artists and the traditional lyric form of operatic art. As you dine, the wait staff will entertain you with typical Spanish zarzuela, interacting with the audience as they go. The night starts with an overture of “Il Barbieri di Siviglia,” served with the traditional tapa of a Spanish omelet. The 1st act, “Die Zauberflöte,” is accompanied by marinated salmon rolls filled with baby broad beans in garlic sauce. For the 2nd act (main course), you can choose from grilled entrecote with herb butter,“La Boheme,” or hake with parsley, gulas (baby eels) and clams, “La Traviata.” The “plaudit” (dessert) is a divine milk mousse of “El Gato Montés.” At the end of the night, all diners are invited to toast “La Traviata!”

For a mistake in the kitchen they asked me to change the reservation to the next day. Having already made a reservation in another restaurant, they took care of calling, inquiring and making the change. Kind and efficient. Very good dinner. Very good singers and dinner with music is always very pleasant. Only note, on the voucher the time indicated is 8pm but the place was still closed. Again they were friendly, let us in and offered us drinks. When the room opened we were the only patrons, the other guests started arriving from 9pm onwards. The music also started much later than the start of our dinner. Apart from this, which I indicate only for "knowledge", I find it an absolutely must-do experience to spend a nice evening in music with good food.

A most memorable experience, the food itself was fantastic, but added to the beautiful voices of the kind and affable servers, the lovely pianist and the overall magic of the dinner/show, it makes a visit to Castafiori a must when in Madrid. Please don't miss reading about the story of the Castafiori and paying attention to the paintings in the rooms, and to the awards by the entrance! Encore Encore! Bravisimo!

Music and atmosphere were excellent. And the beef as main course. I did not like that the menus for Spanish speakers and English speakers were different. Found it discriminatory. Starter and main course for English speaker clients had 2 courses less. Talked to the owner. She said she will fix this. I think it is nicer when opereta singers walks around. This time they sung like being on a stage.
