  • Enjoy the guidance of a local graffiti artist who belongs to Madrid's street art movement
Full description
During this tour you will learn about the history of street art and the techniques that graffiti artists use while decorating the walls, mettal shutters and other elements present in the cities. Muelle (lit. Spring of a mattress) is considered as the pioneer of the graffiti movement in Madrid and you will observe a tag which is still preserved from 1989. A very young fellow who participated in the establishment of a new cultural movement in town. Once the first part of your visit is completed and the bicycle safety instructions explained, you will head towards Alonso Martinez, where the first piece created by Boa Mistura is photographed. This crew, born and raised in the outskirts of Madrid, has participated in street art projects all around the world and is considered by many as one of the most important designing agencies in the country. On your way to Malasaña, you will cross the artwork of national artists who participated in the 2017 edition of Pinta Malasaña, a street art festival which colors this trendy neighborhood during the month of April. Plaza Dos de Mayo is the center of it and "Bolardo Voy, Bolardo vengo" a colorful display of traffic elements which will surprise you. There will also be time to visit Solar Antonio Grilo and Esto es una Plaza by bike, both local hubs created for and by the community of Lavapiés and Noviciado areas. These urban gardens full of street art were once abandoned places and now example to other communities around the globe on how to implement hybrid economy systems. This tour will show you the interventions of street artists such as El Rey de la Ruina, Cassassola, Ze Carrión, Por Favor and many more.

Excellent experience!!! The guide provided insightful knowledge about street art while making the bicycle ride a fun one. In my group, there were a few participants that were below average in cycling and that was a challenge due to the traffic of Madrid and some uphill routes. The guide adjusted the tour to accommodate as much as possible though. So it is recommended for participants of this tour to be familiar with city cycling to truly maximize the experience.

We have had the luck to have Javier as our "private" guide for this amazing family bike tour in Madrid. Our son (7 years) and us enjoyed to be shown not only the street art but also the "hidden" quarters of Madrid where you can see and fell the urban, cosmopolitan life stye of Madrid. Javier is a very friendly and experienced tour guide and the whole experience from booking, renting the bike, driving through Madrid was seamless and without any troubles. Its definitly recommendable, even with kids starting with 7 on their own bike.

Santi was enthusiastic and full of energy. He is involved personally with Street art and knows some of the artists. He has even commissioned one of the artists to paint a wall where he teaches. We learnt the distinction between Art and graffiti, and how the city of Madrid facilitates and encourages art by having regular festivals. In the process of discovering the art, we also learnt about the different neighborhoods and the people who stay there. The bike tour was 3 hours, on well maintained comfortable bikes. I could have cycled and listened to Santi for 6 hours! Highly recommended.
