Madrid: Prado Museum Small Group Guided Tour

9. Madrid: Prado Museum Small Group Guided Tour

The Prado Museum is Madrid’s top cultural sight and one of the world’s greatest art galleries. Its dazzling display of works by the great European masters — such as Velázquez, Goya, Raphael, Rubens, and Bosch, among other major Italian and Flemish artists — is housed in an 18th-century neoclassical building that opened as a museum in 1819. The Spanish queen at the time had been impressed with the Louvre in Paris and wanted to showcase an enormous collection in her own country. The result is several thousand works from that time, with a recent modern extension allowing even more of them to be displayed. The tour begins with the most famous masterpieces from European artists like El Bosco. Continue delving into the work of Velazquez, followed by artists like El Greco and Goya, among many others. Gain an understanding of all the artists' aims, lives, and circumstances hidden behind the paintings, as well as the historic moment in which they were created. Learn about Spanish history from an art historian and get a closer look at local culture and Madrid's art scene.

I had a wonderful time traveling Toledo, Segovia, and Avila. Perfect amount of time at each of the locations and the guides were super knowledgeable. Maria was amazing! We even stopped at view points away from the city to get good photos at Toledo and Avila before proceeding into the city. We also got a decent amount of free time in Segovia during lunch which was nice! Highly recommend this tour! (I personally could have gone without the Avila portion of the trip. By the time we were done with Toledo and Segovia, I was exhausted and wanted to go home. And then Avila was underwhelming, not at fault of the guides, just my personal opinion after seeing the wall and city itself. Doing this part of the trip will add 2 extra hours to the trip than those that are just doing Toledo and Segovia.)

John our guide and Tuk Tuk pilot was very knowlegeable and kind. He made us at ease and we had a great time listening to his stories and the ride. Got a great snapshot of Madrid key things to see and would highly recommend the trip to anyone wanting to get a overview on the city !!

Alvaro was a great tour guide. We saw many sites in Madrid and had opportunities to get out and walk around some of the sites. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of Madrid. We highly recommend the tour and Alvaro as a tour guide!
