Full description

Experience the bohemian vibe of Essaouira on the Atlantic coast on a full-day tour from Marrakech. Transfer by air-conditioned vehicle across west Morocco, enjoying views of the arid landscape and argan trees en route. Stop at the town of Chichaoua for coffee. Arrive in Essaouira approximately 2 hours after your departure from Marrakech. Get your 1st views of more than 6 miles (10 kilometers) of golden beaches, popular with surfers for the constant, bracing winds. Once in Essaouira you are free to explore the medina and Portuguese architecture on your own. Alternatively, meet your local guide for a 1.5-hour tour of the Skala du Port and bastion southeast of the medina. Stroll the labyrinthine streets of the medina, hearing traditional Gnaoua Muic music on every corner. Watch artisans at work, crafting thuya wood crafts. Continue to the fishing port to see the fishermen selling their catch of the day. Taste fresh seafood over lunch in the port. Then, take a walk along the beach before your transfer back to Marrakech. En route, stop at an argan oil co-operative to see how the Berber ladies process the traditional argan oil, known locally as “liquid gold.”

Essaouira is beautiful. It is a shift from Marrakech to somewhere where you can peruse shops and markets at a leisurely pace, enjoy the coastline and see historic forts. The tour guide once you arrive is really good, lots of interesting things shared about the location. It is however a long drive in a very hot bus!

It was the ideal trip to get out of busy Marrakesh to the calmness of Essaouira. Our day trip was guided and driven by a very knowledgable driver, who stopped in a number of locations on the way there and therefore the three hour journey soon passed. On arrival around midday, we were given a guided tour which lasted around an hour. This then gave us the insight of the history of Essaouira. After that, we toured the shopping area and I went to relax on the beach. We were to meet at 4.30pm for the drive back and the driver was prompt, but two of our party failed to turn up at the requested time so we left later than planned. Yes a most enjoyable day and thanks to the driver we had a safe journey. I think only a very experienced driver could cope with the traffic as we came into Marrakesh at such a busy time on a Friday evening. Thank you for a most enjoyable day!

We had an exceptional day, already the kindness of our driver Saïd as well as his perfect driving accompanied us throughout this day. Once arrived in Essaouira we discovered a wonderful city with very nice inhabitants. Nothing to do with Marrakesh. This day gave us a real break from time to decompress. Do not hesitate, the road is not long because we make as many stops as desired to discover the villages on the road. Great day really if there could be 6 stars it would be with pleasure !!!
