Full description
Discover and explore deep Berber country in the High Atlas Mountains, and enjoy the landscapes of desert, valleys, villages, and open plains on a full-day trip from Marrakech.  The drive takes you first to the Agafay Desert, just south of Marrakech, where you’ll experience some dune bashing before continuing on to the Lalla Takerkoust region, making your first stop on the hills overlooking the lake. From here you’ll begin a 4x4 adventure on dirt tracks rarely frequented by tourists and climb up to the Kik Plateau, where you’ll drive from village to village meeting locals, visiting Berber homes, and sampling their traditional mint tea and homemade bread.  When you arrive at Imlil Village, located in the heart of Toubkal National Park, you’ll have the option of hiking for an hour to Armed village or continue to the village by 4x4. The 1-hour hike with a local guide is of moderate difficulty. In the village you’ll be served a Berber lamb tagine for lunch at a local home. You’ll also enjoy Moroccan salads and homemade bread during the meal.  After lunch and a short relaxation break, you’ll head down a gentle hill to Imlil village, where you’ll meet your driver for the 1-hour trip back to Marrakech via the Haouz plains.

    Problems with meeting point

We did not get picked up at the Riad as written on the confirmation mail, but instead we had to call 3-4 times Ando Trips to find a meeting point. The lunch at the berber family has been a normal lunch, no berber family or family feeling at all. The best thing of the trip was Hassan our drive, who has been very professional.

    Great experience!

With Abdou from Atlas Guided Trek we had a great day in the mountains. No rush, and easy going. Abdou andwered all of our questions and drove safely to Imlil village. From there it was a nice hike to the last village in the vally where we had a great lunch at his his families house. Next time we visit Marocco, we hope the guesthouse there is ready, so we could also stay there for one or more nights. In this one day we learned a bit about berber life. Definitely would recommend Abdou from Atlas Guided Treks, also for longer hikes.

I made the Berbertrails 4x4 with my son and it was fantastic, we can recommend it to everybody. Our driver, Mohamed showed a lot of sights: nice views, ancient water reservoirs, a George, how olive oil is produced and explaned the sights. The Camel ride took about half an hour, it was a very nice experience and a great wish from my Son is accomplished. Mohamed filmed this and he send it to us. Drinking mint tea with next to the Camels under a shady tent was special. Next stop was Imlil, a small Berber village where Rachid, our gide for the day, took us for a walk. Walking and climbing at 1800 m. with clear view over the High Atlas mountains and the Toebkal, the valley , the waterfall and ancient houses: You can not miss this when you are in Marrakech! After about 1 1/2 Hrs walk we visited Rachids house, drank mint tea and after that a lunch with delicious a salad, Tanjine and fruits. Mohamed and Rachid, you both deserve 5 stars: enthusastic, friendly and very nice people: Thanks!!!
