Full description

Take a day tour of Monserrat from Barcelona and enjoy the area's natural beauty. Visit the monastery before boarding a funicular to reach sweeping views of Catalonia from the mountaintop.

Meet your guide at the local partner's office in Barcelona and settle in for the hour-long ride to Montserrat.

Your first stop is the Benedictine Abbey. Explore this 11th-century religious sanctuary home to Catalonia’s patron saint: The Black Madonna. Next, board the funicular railway and ascend to the top of the mountain. Enjoy stunning views of valleys, mountains, and the sea. Hike on the same paths used by pilgrims hundreds of years ago as you admire Montserrat’s fascinating flora and fauna. Wander past rocky pillars and ravines as you breathe in the mountain air. Have some free time back in the monastery area after your hike. Browse the local market before you catch a ride back to Barcelona.

Our guide (uni) was super nice and even the drive to Montserrat was informative. Due to the good planning, we (a total of 3 x 2 participants) were ahead of the large tourist groups in the monastery and in the cable car. The walk from the cable car station back to the monastery is easily manageable and Uni offered an option at a more difficult point or at other points offered the opportunity to wait until the group was back from a viewpoint, for example. Also, he always had an eye on the laggards. This trip was really worth it.

Very individual tour. If there were any changes, which was the case for us (the tour had to be changed from German Gide to English-speaking Gide), we were informed in an uncomplicated manner and our skipped Gide contacted us again after the tour and apologized. Very pleasant that you are driven to the door and don't have to worry about anything. The mountain tour was exhausting but doable. Frank, our gide always kept an eye on us and kept to our speed. We were a small group of eight, which was also very pleasant and it was a great way to meet new people. All in all good value for money!

The excursion was well organized. After about 1 hour drive we looked at the monastery. Uni our tour guide gave us some information about the history of the monastery in front of the monastery. In the church, however, the explanations were missing. Time in church was also very limited. That was a pity. After that we took the funicular up to the summit. A very nice 2 hour hike started from there. For a well conditioned hiker the hike up to the summit and back to the monastery was manageable. The last stretch from the mountain station back to the monastery was partly very steep. But Uni helped the participants a lot. Hiking shoes or sturdy shoes would be an advantage. In my opinion, sneakers are only suitable to a limited extent. Since the participants were of different nationalities, Uni gave the explanations in English and German. All in all it was a very nice experience.
