1. Amman: Private Tour to Madaba, Mount Nebo, and Baptism Site

Start with pickup from your hotel in Amman and hop on a climate-controlled vehicle with a private English-speaking driver and WiFi access. Take in the views of Jordan’s desert landscapes as you travel south to Madaba. See places of interest and particular information on the journey. Upon arrival at Madaba, discover the ancient mosaic town with a history dating back to the 2nd century. See the 6th-century mosaic map of Jordan and Holy Land in the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George; marked with points related to historical stories mentioned in the bible. Then, climb Mount Nebo, a sacred Mountain in Jordan which stands at approximately 817 meters above sea level. Mount Nebo is steeped in religious significance as an important Judeo-Christian pilgrimage site. It is where Moses first viewed the Promised Land from the summit and where Prophet Moses is said to have died. Visit the basilica at the summit of the mountain, built by Egyptian monks in the 4th century. Inside, see a collection of well-preserved Byzantine mosaics, illustrating images of wildlife and hunting. Also, enjoy a panoramic view of the Holy Land and the Jordan River Valley from the summit. Next, head to The Baptism Site of Jesus Christ; located on the Jordan side of the Jordan River. It was known as Bethany beyond the Jordan in Biblical times and is considered as one of the three holiest sites of Christianity. Get the chance to pray or simply explore this significant pilgrimage site where many prophets are said to have visited. The Baptism Site, known as ‘Maghtas’ in Arabic is one of the most important recent discoveries in biblical archaeology, having only being discovered in 1996.  After experiencing these holy sights and enjoy the fantastic views, reconvene with your driver for the return journey, ending with a hotel drop-off in Amman.

Private Half-Day Tour to Madaba and Mount Nebo

3. Private Half-Day Tour to Madaba and Mount Nebo

Enjoy a half day tour of Mount Nebo and Madaba from Amman City. Your private English speaking driver will pick you up at your hotel. Situated 10 kilometers west of Madaba overlooking the Jordan Valley is Mount Nebo, one of the alleged sites of the tomb of Moses. The summit of this lonely windswept site command spectacular views over the Dead Sea to the West Bank and Jerusalem. You can see the springs where Moses smote the ground to bring forth water. Just 20 minutes south of Amman, on the Kings Highway, is the mosaic-filled city of Madaba. Crowned by a small church, this historic town lies in the middle of Jordan's most fertile land. In many respects Madaba is an atypical East Bank town which differs in one major aspect: underneath almost every house lies a fine Byzantine mosaic. Many of these mosaics have been excavated and are on display in the town's museum, but it is estimated that many more lie hidden waiting to be discovered. The finest mosaic found to date is still in its original place on the floor of the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George. After the tour is done, return to the same pick-up location (any Amman City Hotel).

This tour was a convenient and enjoyable way to see the Dead Sea and religious sites. My driver Khalil particularly made the experience great. As a solo female traveler who took this tour alone, he made me feel comfortable and welcomed to Jordan and treated me like his daughter. Khalil was happy to share his culture with me and teach me about Jordan. He took every opportunity to provide for me, including getting me food and water, stopping for photos, and not rushing me during activities. Khalil also helped me with two problems: I lost my sunglasses in his car, and a faulty ATM machine “ate” my card. Khalil met me the following day to return my sunglasses, and he called the bank for me to try to retrieve the card. Though it was unfortunately not able to be returned, I really appreciated his help with the issue, since I could not call in English. I am grateful to Khalil for everything he did to make my time in Jordan special. I feel that I have made a good friend here!

Great experience! The dead sea resort spa lunch was fun. It's on your own to utilize the spa services. It's a short walk to a private beach as well as pool access in addition to a buffet style lunch. This is where I spent the most time and there is more flexibility with the private tour (utilize your time to the fullest). There is a lot of culture and history in Jordanz enjoy!

Tour was detailed. Access to the Dead Sea was through the Hotel Holiday Inn on the Dead Sea. The cost is 21 JOD without food and 28 JOD with food. Another tour was to the Jordan River with the group. The cost was at 12 JOD. Churches and ruins were also included in the sightseeing tour. Costs ex. at 3 JOD. Everyone else was okay.

I just finished my tour and I definitely recommend it to every traveller that wants to discover Jordan. Our driver was amazing and we had a very good time visiting the religious sites and the Dead Sea. It's a unique experience that only Jordan can offer.

Jaf’ar was an awesome guide, he told us many stories about Jordan and regarding the trips he did during his career. I recommend him and his company.
