Full description

After meeting your guide in Marienplatz, take an S-bahn train to Dachau Bahnhof and then a short bus ride to the memorial site.

On the way, learn about the rise of the Nazi Party throughout the 1920s up to Adolf Hitler’s appointment as Chancellor in 1933. Hear about the introduction of concentration camps and the role Dachau played as a model for other camps. Start a guided tour of all the areas and buildings open to the public. Visit the SS training facility, the bathhouse, and the main gate with the infamous ‘Arbeit Macht Frei’ slogan. See the perimeter fence, several religious memorials, and the bunker, which acted as a prison within the camp. Your guide will explain the methods of torture and punishments used in the camp, and the various medical experiments carried out on prisoners. Hear what daily life was like for prisoners and their guards. Learn about Georg Elser, the man who almost killed Hitler and was executed at Dachau. Visit the former gas chamber and crematorium. Watch a short color film of Dachau in the hours following its liberation, and hear about what happened afterwards.

You will then walk back to the visitor center and start the return journey back to Munich.

Very informative, knowledgeable guide, Matt. He kept us on track, and even though it rained a bit throughout, for me it added to the atmosphere and gave you a glimpse into a nightmarish world, first hand. such atrocities happened here, it definitely leaves a lingering feeling inside. Respect and Rest for those who passed through these gates

Our tour guide Keith was fantastic. So knowledgeable and informative. Arranging trains/buses is overwhelming to me so it was nice to have someone familiar with the city present to get us to/from our meeting spot. Wear good walking shoes and pack an umbrella just in case it rains, you spend a lot of time outside. I had a small backpack with a water bottle and I was glad I packed it.

Our guide Eric was a very nice man. He was very informative about Dachau and the tour was moving at times. Our transportation via train was delayed which wasn’t Eric’s fault of course. When our train didn’t come he had us take an alternative route by a different train. Despite arriving 40 min late to Dachau, Eric gave us a full tour which was very good. Our one complaint was that the tour was advertised as a “small group tour” and there were 27 of us. At times it was hard to hear. Eric did his best but a tour of that size is not a “small group”.
