The Museo Picasso Málaga was created in response to Pablo Ruiz Picasso´s desire for his work to be exhibited in the city where he was born in 1881. It was created as a result of the combined efforts of Christine and Bernard Ruiz-Picasso, the artits´s daughter-in-law and grandson, whose donations are the body of the art collection and Junta de Andalucía, who also took part in the creation of the museum arranging an ambitious museistic project devoted to the artist whose styles and techniques changed the course of modern art. The Palacio de Buenavista, declared National Monument, houses the Collection of the Museo Picasso Málaga. Located in the heart of the historical old city, it is a harmonic mixture of Renaissance and Mudéjar elements with the purity of contemporary lines. The underground floor contains also Phoenician, Roman and Arabic ruins. The Permanent Collection contains examples of Picasso´s revolutionary innovations and of the wide range of styles, materials and techniques he used. The selection of paintings, drawings and sculptures, ceramics, and graphic works illustrates the great and prolific Picasso´s career from his first academic studies to his personal neoclassical perspective, form the overlapping forms of cubism to his experiments in ceramics, from his interpretation of the Old Masters to his last paintings of the 70s.
