  • Berlin: Alternative City Walking Tour with Murals & Squats

    10. Berlin: Alternative City Walking Tour with Murals & Squats

After the fall of the wall, Berlin was a cheap place to live, and, hence, a space for creation. It attracted many alternatives, hippies, punks, youngsters and progressives from all over the world, who came to see the demise of totalitarianism, and the rise of a free and creative culture among the deserted buildings of East German communism. Squats, housing projects, galleries and communities popped up everywhere in the city as a manifestation of an anti-bourgeois movement. Although it has experienced constant gentrification, Berlin is still kicking as a hub for artists, musicians and wanderers from all over the world.

Nadav was extremely knowledgable and easy-going, able to personalize the tour as we went in order to devote more time and attention to topics and areas that interested me personally. His areas of expertise truly seem boundless. Not merely a talented academic, he’s a gifted story teller, able to vividly evoke the past with his words. I highly recommend his tour!
