Nagoya: UNESCO Tour to Shiragawago & Takayama

1. Nagoya: UNESCO Tour to Shiragawago & Takayama

Experience Edo-period Japan in the Takayama and in the UNESCO-listed Shirakawa-go village. You will have your lunch at your own expense in Takayama first, which is filled with interesting sights and is the gate-way to the Japanese Alps. Some of the must-see spots are the Sanmachi Suji District, which consists of three streets in the heart of Takayama Edo town, which lies just to the east of the Miya-gawa River. The streets are lined with traditional houses, shops, restaurants, sake breweries and, cafes. Then, head to the famous Shirakawa-go for the old gassho-zukuri (thached-roof) style houses that are spotted around this mountain village. Surrounded by rice paddies, you can hear the sounds of insects and birds if you listen. Located in a mountainous region that was cut off from the rest of the world for a long period of time, these villages with their Gassho-style houses subsisted on the cultivation of mulberry trees and the rearing of silkworms. The large houses with their steeply pitched thatched roofs are the only examples of their kind in Japan. Despite economic upheavals, the villages of Ogimachi, Ainokura, and Suganuma are outstanding examples of a traditional way of life perfectly adapted to the environment and people's social and economic circumstances.

Nagoya: Private and Personalized Eat Like a Local Tour

4. Nagoya: Private and Personalized Eat Like a Local Tour

Food, glorious food! Find out why the food culture in Nagoya has gone from small-town sensation to a source of pride in the city with a local expert foodie. Visit a neighborhood of your choice and try local specialties hand-picked for you by your private host. Benefit from a private and flexible itinerary you can change on the go. You'll be paired with a foodie local passionate about their city (and its food!) for a culinary adventure. You will be able to share your preferences ahead of the tour, to make sure it suits your needs and requests. In Nagoya, ancient history collides with modern innovation, and this can be tasted in its cuisine, with modern twists being spun on dishes dating back to ancient times. With your host, eat your way through Nagoya and sample the city’s specialties, like grilled eel (hitsumbishi) and shrimp tempura rice balls (tenmusu). Nagoya’s style of miso paste is rich, salty, and extra-umami, so miso soup and miso katsu (deep-fried pork cutlets served with earthy miso sauce) are must-tries. At one of the city’s cozy, wood-built izakayas, you could sample small plates of takoyaki – fried octopus balls under a blanket of unfurling bonito flakes – or test an old Nagoya trick: ask the chef for “today’s best”, and that’s what you’ll get. And don't leave without trying the city’s famous chicken wings! Important: As this is a private and personalised experience, the places you visit may differ from those listed and these will be chosen by your host based on your interests and preferences. At the end of your tour, get recommendations from your host about other dishes to eat and the best places to find them.

Highly recommended. We landed at Kansai airport and pick up location is right at the entrance with large English signage. Picked up pocket wifi and it was ready to use. The battery lasted almost 12 hours and comes with a charger cable in case. The coverage and speed are excellent. Quite cheap compared to other providers and sim. I was given two days extension free of charge out of courtesy. Very polite helpful personnel at the store

Everything was handled perfectly. They clarified our date of arrival to our Shibuya hotel (I was originally off by one day on the date of our arrival). The SIM card was waiting for us at our hotel when we arrived. Highly recommend. The card works in our iPhones.

Extremely useful while we were in Japan. Bought 2 SIMs which worked really well, did not slow down even with high use and streaming. Cheaper than renting a Wi-Fi egg for the same duration

i enjoy using your wifi its ver useful for travellers like me

Simple set up. Good connectivity. We'll worth getting.
