Full description
Visit Endonji Temple. The temple holds the important secret Buddha statue presented by the local Tokugawa Family about 400 years ago. You only can see the statue on the 18th day of the month. Next, you’ll visit the tiny Kompira Shrine that stands on a little corner of the street, loved by locals for its unique Nagoya dialect omikuji (fortune-telling paper). After walking through a corner of tiny hidden bars, where small restaurants and bars stand side by side, your guide will take you to see a Yanegami-Sama (rooftop shrine altar) which is unique to the central Japan area. After this, your guide will take you to visit Sengen Shrine, a branch shrine worshipping Mt Fuji. Admire its path lined by small Jizo statues. As you walk through the storehouse street, immerse yourself in the age of the samurai by visiting traditional Japanese clog, accessory, and kimono stores. As you near lunchtime, try the local famous street foods Endoji has to offer. Stop at Maruko (the local butcher) and try their famous freshly-fried korokke (croquette), or at Amataro for their Nagoya-style okonomiyaki, a type of savory pancake. After you try the Japanese wagashi sweets, you will visit a local supermarket and learn how locals shop and live. The tour finishes at two stores where two friendly and heartwarming grandparents sell rice crackers and souvenirs. After your tour, you can choose between 2 optional activities, a Japanese lantern-making workshop (1.5-hours) or watching a Modern Kabuki Show at Nagoya-za (2-hours).
