Full description

See enchanting scenery unfold before your eyes in a secret place full of history and atmosphere on a guided tour of Bourbon Tunnel in Naples. Choose the Via delle Memorie tour option to enrich your trip by walking the historic underground route.

The Bourbon Tunnel was built in 1853 by Ferdinand II of Bourbon, who, concerned about the outbreak of the rebellion, asked for an escape from the Royal Palace to the barrack in Via della Pace, now Via Morelli.

The work was not completed and, during World War II, the tunnel was used as a military hospital, later becoming the Hall Judicial Deposit. The war left its mark even in the subsoil: find handwritten messages of wishes and desolation of those who lived there.

In the tunnels, find statues dating back to the fascist period and an exhibition of cars and motorcycles, abandoned for years and then freed from the rubbish. Add the option to walk the Via delle Memorie, an underground route carved out of the tuff.

This tour starts from the Palazzo Serra di Cassano basement. See historical finds from WWII, 16th century caves, and a water tank from the 17th century, later used as a bomb shelter. End your tour with a walk through the last section of the tunnel.

It was a very nice tour with a small group of people, and our tour guide, Sabrina, was super enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We enjoyed every minute of it and we will definitely suggest to anyone who will plan a visit to Naples one day! Make sure that you have a look at their shop at the end of the tour as well as they have very interesting pieces

A big group, but very good and our guide kept us moving so that we stuck to the 1 hour schedule. There is a lot to see, but the humidity underground does get people coughing, so take water! Also not suitable for kids under 8 I would say. Steps and uneven surfaces left lots of adults carrying children. Very interesting history, not just more recent war stories.

Really good tour. Sabrina, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the tunnel and was able to contextualise it well in broader Italian history. She spoke perfect English as well and seemed really passionate about the whole project of the tunnel’s restoration. Great value for money!
