Full description
Immerse yourself in the tranquility and history of Nara. Stroll around UNESCO-listed temples, deer-filled parks, and Buddhist statues. Along the way, listen to your guide share insights into the area's spiritual heritage and cultural significance.
Meet up with your guide at Kyoto station and hop on a train for the quick ride out to Nara, the first capital of Japan. Take a 30-minute stroll to reach Todaiji Temple, famous for housing one of the world's largest bronze Buddha statues.
From there, wander over to serene Nara Park, home to 1,000 tame deer. Learn about the spiritual meaning of deer in the Shinto religion as you take in the peaceful surroundings.
Walk until you reach Kofukuji Temple, which was moved to its current location from Kyoto in 710 AD. Admire the striking architecture of the temple's 5-story pagoda, the second tallest in Japan, before heading back to the train for your return ride to Kyoto.
