Full description
Learn the history of one of New York’s most iconic monuments on an half-day early access tour of the Statue of Liberty. Meet your guide for a little context of the sites around Battery Park. See memorials that many tourists miss, and hear stories about Castle Clinton National Monument, Pier A Harbor House, the American Merchant Mariner’s Memorial, the Sphere, and New York Korean War Veteran’s Memorial. Then, take the ferry to Liberty Island, enjoying priority boarding to get the best seats. Arrive at the Statue of Liberty before the crowds and get a great view back to the city. If you book the Pedestel option, you'll have the opportunity to climb up the 215 steps to enjoy even more spectacular views. Learn how she was gifted to the US by France, and designed by their finest architects, including Gustav Eiffel. Hear how she wasn’t as warmly received as you might think, and about the struggle that got her on her feet and made her special to the people of New York. Climb back on the ferry to cross to Ellis Island. Follow in the footsteps of 12 million immigrants, and learn about the process they went through to settle in America. Walk the Stairs of Separation to understand the island’s 2 very different names: “The Island of Hope” and “The Island of Tears.” Explore the museum’s impressive collection of interactive displays. Feel free to stay on Ellis Island a little longer to explore at leisure, or head back to the mainland with your guide by ferry.

Despite a half hour delay in getting started due to some ticketing glitch, the tour was excellent, primarily due to the skills and delivery by our guide Alvaro. He knew all the details and his delivery was superb - just right amount of humor, detail, even suspense to keep our attention. The tour ended at Ellis Island and gave us as much time as we wanted to explore, but the tour description should note that for a full experience at Ellis Island, one should allot at least 2-3 hours

Don’t tour the Statue without a guide. For most people it’s a once in a lifetime visit, and if you go without a guide you’ll miss some good things. Our Guide Jacob was fun. He was knowledgeable and presented the information in an interesting way. He knew the short cuts to take, things not to miss (like the Kissing Post on Ellis Island) and never made me feel like this was just a job to him. He more than deserved his tip!

Jacob our tour guide, and local Nycer was absolutely fantastic. His knowledge of the tour was second to non and his knowledge of the city meant his tour continued throughout our stay because of his recommendations. He was incredibly approachable, friendly and got a real camaraderie going between the group. I would highly recommend This tour and hope to get Jacob as your guide because he is a great guy and host.
