Full description
Explore Sainte Marguerite Island with a round-trip ferry transfer from Nice. Choose from multiple departure dates to suit your own schedule. Located about a half-mile off shore from the French Riviera town of Cannes, the le Sainte-Marguerite is famous for its fortress prison (Fort Royal) in which the so-called “Man in the Iron Mask” was held in the 17th century. The ferries depart every day at 09:00 and return at 18:00, with a crossing time of around 1 hour. Once on the island, you can follow the marked trails that take you on a botanical and historical tour. Stroll by the Batéguier pond to see numerous species of migratory birds. Go to Point de la Convention to find unique plant species. Continue to the Fort Royal and explore the mysteries of the masked man. Pay a visit to the Maritime Museum sheltered within a fortified enclosure. Get an insight into the area's history and see items recovered from ancient Roman and Saracen shipwrecks. Friendly ferry, really excellent staff, the island is beautiful, superb transparent water for snorkeling, you can admire the fish and underwater vegetation, just plan a picnic to avoid having to cross the entire island to eat very poor quality sandwiches at exorbitant prices, there is also a good restaurant which seems excellent but not for all budgets. Be prepared to go to the bathroom before crossing the island because there is no other place for urgent cravings. In addition, provide toilet paper and hydroalcoholic gel. The cleanliness of the toilets is not up to par.

Nice trip. Small breakfast is served on the boat. Lovely forest, unfortunately, they seem to be cutting down quite a lot of trees. The area to go to the water was much better than on mainland Nice (Not too deep close to the shore, not too many stones). However, it was also rather noisy due to the many boats close to the shore.

This island really is a beautiful spot. The water is so clear. Looks like Maldives. You could go into the water very well (end of May). I found the period really perfect. And you get great underwater pictures. You just have to watch out for snakes and avoid going into tall grass.
