  • Mont-Saint-Michel Abbey Ticket & Self-Guided Tour

    1. Mont-Saint-Michel Abbey Ticket & Self-Guided Tour

Discover one of the world's first UNESCO World Heritage Sites with a visit to Mont-Saint-Michel abbey. The worship of Saint Michel was introduced on the holy mount in 708 and it became one of the most important places of medieval pilgrimage. Benedictine Monks began building an abbey here in the 10th century.   The abbey has withstood the assaults of man, time and the elements. The heroic resistance of the mount to English attacks during the Hundred Years’ War (14th and 15th centuries) made it a symbol of French national identity. Monks left the abbey in 1790 and it was listed as a historic monument in 1874. The whole site has been returned to its former glory thanks to ongoing restoration work. Explore the site with a self-guided tour aided by an information booklet and learn the fascinating history of the site entirely at your own pace.

Minden az előre leírtak szerint működött. A parkolóba bejutással volt az egyetlen problémánk.

Amazing gardens right on top of the cliff (but nowhere near the edge!). Take the little tourist train to get there or park on the road out of town. You cannot drive to the gardens. Give yourself time to sit on some of the seats provided so you can really enjoy the views and the atmosphere. Also allow time to wander along the cliff path outside the garden - the views are breathtaking. There is lovely little gift shop hidden away upstairs in the villa. Such a pleasant change not to have to exit through a gift shop! The gardens themselves are really well-maintained and immaculate. I give it 10/5!!!

  • From Paris: Full-Day Mont Saint-Michel Guided Tour

    7. From Paris: Full-Day Mont Saint-Michel Guided Tour

On this full-day tour from Paris you will discover Mont Saint-Michel, a traditional Norman village. On the drive through Normandy, your guide will recount the rich history of the region marked by invasions, first by the Romans and then the Barbarians, before the region was fought over in the Hundred Years’ War. You will have lunch in the restaurant Relais St Michel, facing the Mont Saint-Michel. You will then tour the famous Abbey and admire the Gothic buildings built on top of each other over the centuries, such as the Cloister and the Monks’ dining hall. You will then be free to stroll around the village and let yourself be taken back to the medieval atmosphere in its narrow paved streets.

The time spent on the tour was rushed and did not have time to appreciate all that the Mont Saint Michel had to offer. It would be so much better if the coach journey started earlier in the morning and then left the Mont later in order to get the best experience possible. Especially when paying nearly £300 for 2 people to only get 2hrs in the Abbey.

We were able to stay in Mont Saint Michel for about 4 hours and we were able to fully enjoy it. The galette shop recommended by Guyto was also delicious. Everything went on time and it was a very solid tour. Although it is an English tour, the audio guide of the monastery was able to be borrowed in Japanese, so it was easier to understand.

Olivia was a fun and energetic guide. She clearly loves what she does. She was a great driver, too! This is a long day but it’s interesting to experience the differences between the wild gardens of Monet and the structured gardens at Versailles. Enjoy!

We did a similar tour 6 years ago and this one was definitely better!! It was much more personal, as there were only 5 people on the tour. We especially enjoyed Utah beach and a trip to the cider farm!

Wonderful experience and our guide Isabella fantastic !! And very helpful

Adrian was a fantastic guide. We enjoyed the tour very much.
