Halifax: Small Group Walking Tour with Citadel & Museum

8. Halifax: Small Group Walking Tour with Citadel & Museum

Your tour begins with your friendly local guide meeting you outside of Uncommon Grounds Café in the Halifax Public Gardens. From there, you will begin your walk through the gardens. Halifax Public Gardens is one of the finest surviving examples of a Victorian garden in North America. They were founded by the Nova Scotia Horticultural Society in 1836 and were recognized as a National Historic Site in 1984. You will love the peaceful stroll through the grounds, passing by stunning floral foliage. From there you will also get a chance to see the historic Camp Hill Cemetery, The Halifax Common - Canada’s oldest urban park -, as well as the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre. Among the first buildings constructed was a wooden guardhouse on top of what would eventually be called Citadel Hill, with Halifax’s first settlers building their homes at the base of the hill. Today, the Citadel continues to watch over the city’s downtown core as a reminder of Halifax’s past. This historical location will definitely peak your interest. Saint John: Private Sunset Kayak Tour on Saint John River

10. Saint John: Private Sunset Kayak Tour on Saint John River

A private sunset kayak tour is the perfect way to wind down after a busy day in Southeast New Brunswick. Local First Nations call the river Wolastoq, which translates to "Beautiful River", and at sunset, it's easy to see why. Often referred to as the "Rhine of North America" the Saint John River might be the biggest river you've never heard of, with a rich natural and geological history, and centuries of industrial development helping to shape the oldest incorporated city in Canada. This guided, private Sunset kayak tour is, in our biased opinion, the best way to enjoy an evening on the river. Experience pre-Cambrian fossils, exploring the calm evening waters relaxing in quiet small coves, and enjoying a mid tour bon-fire and light snacks on the beach. Have a special request in mind (birthday party? staff event? book club excursion?)? We're open to customizing these tours to your group, so get in touch and let us make your private sunset experience uniquely yours! Difficulty: Relaxed/Mild (the only objective is enjoying the sunset, but nature has it's own agenda, and conditions can change)

What people are saying about Nova Scotia

I liked this tour. I appreciated that the app allowed downloading and I was able to listen offline, as we were out of the country and had no cell service. The ability to go at your own pace and see each of the stops was nice. Also seeing the map up front and being able to listen out of order if we travelled a different path was helpful. Would recommend.

So great to visualize the exact location of events and see a part of Halifax I don’t normally. Sad stories mixed with courageous ones. Strongly recommend and can’t wait to do the Churches and Cemeteries tour!

I like that the commentary was also included in written form so if reception was wonky, I could always read the information. Also, that I can take my time and wander off the path, coming back when I want.

After a little trouble figuring out how to work the app, I found this to be good value for the money, with interesting facts but not an excessive amount of detail.
