4. Wroclaw: Half-Day Old Town and Alternative City Tour
During the first part of the tour, see the most important buildings and places in the city center, including the Old Town Hall, the Market Square, the Salt Square, the Pillory, the Elizabeth Church, the Old Prison, the University’s main building, the Ossolinski National Library, the Market Hall and the oldest part of the city, the Cathedral Island. Get to know the rich and complicated history of the city and find out how Wroclaw has changed in the course of time.
In the second part of this tour, visit the one and only Nadodrze District, full of places where many directors, including Steven Spielberg, made war movies, and street artists from all over the world created their works. Find out how the city council has been trying to change this neighborhood for the last years, and see the current state of gentrification. Compare the new with the old, hip pubs versus shops with cheap alcohol and one-armed bandits, young, well-educated people versus modest living retirees. This diverse mixture and these contrasts are the mark of Nadodrze.
Today, Nadodrze is also well-known for small galleries run by young, local artists, crafts companies and projects of the social economy. Walk in this neighborhood until you're hungry. Nadodrze also offers one of the best bakeries and ice cream parlors in the city.
